ULYSSE vs. CSL VIRGINIA Update: separated, no 600 ton leak
Oct 12 Update: The ships were uncoupled in the evening Oct 11 at around 2130 LT, both remained on site, with CSL VIRGINIA being anchored. As of 0600 UTC Oct 12, ULYSSE looked like being under tow to France or Italy. No details given to operation and ships damages, it was mentioned only, that separation operation was extremely complicated and difficult. The pic gives a rough estimation of ferry damages.

Panama Canal Sets Record Cargo Volume for FY 2018
The Panama Canal closed its 2018 fiscal year with a record tonnage of 442.1 million Panama Canal tons (PC/UMS), representing a 9.5 percent increase from the previous year.
With this number, the Panama Canal surpasses the cargo projections of 429.4 million PC/UMS tons for FY 2018, as well as the 403.8 million PC/UMS tons registered in FY 2017.

Thenamaris Adds One More LNG Carrier at HHI
Greek ship manager Thenamaris has ordered one more LNG carrier at the world’s largest shipbuilder Hyundai Heavy Industries. Based on the company s website data, the 174,000 cbm LNG carrier will be delivered in 2021.
The vessel s specifications are the same as that of its predecessor ordered back in June this year.

Worker Dies at Meyer Turku in Forklift Accident
A worker died in an accident at Finnish Meyer Turku shipyard on Thursday afternoon. The man, working for the shipyard s subcontractor, lost his life after being hit by a forklift truck at approximately 14:40, Meyer Turku confirmed.
Immediately after the accident, workers alarmed the yard s first aid team. Ten minutes later, local emergency services arrived but the man was found to be already dead.

8 Ultramaxes in the Bag for AVIC International
AVIC International Leasing has been tied to an order comprising eight Ultramax bulk carriers at freshly restructured Dayang Shipbuilding based in Yangzhou, China.
The ships range in size from 61,000 dwt to 63,500 dwt, according to the data from Asiasis. Details on the delivery and ship prices were not disclosed.

Fast ferry struck bulk carrier off Singapore, severely damaged
Fast ferry VOC BATAVIA (No data found, see pics) in the morning Oct 11 collided with, reportedly, bulk carrier PACIFIC CROWN on approached to Singapore in South China sea, in position 01 43N 104 43E. Ferry was en route from Tarempa - Anambas, Riau Archipelago, Indonesia, to Bintan Pura, Tanjungpinang, Bintan island, with 153 passengers on board.

AET Names LNG Dual-Fuel Aframax Pair
Petroleum and chemical tanker owner and operator AET has named its first two LNG dual-fuel Aframax tankers. The 113,000 dwt vessels, Eagle Brasilia and Eagle Bintulu, were inaugurated today at a ceremony held at the Samsung Heavy Industry (SHI) shipyard in Geoje, South Korea.

Report: Carnival Faces Fine for Cruise Ship Pollution in France
US-based cruise ship major Carnival Corporation & plc is facing an EUR 100,000 fine after it was accused of deliberately exceeding European air pollution limits.
Namely, the French prosecutors called for the fine against the captain of the cruise ship Azura, Evans Hoyt, and the vessel s owners, Carnival’s UK-based arm P&O Cruises, according to Agence France-Presse (AFP).

Yangzijiang Shipbuilding, MES & Mitsui to Launch Shipbuilding JV
Mitsui E&S Shipbuilding Co., Yangzijiang Shipbuilding and Mitsui & Co. have entered into a shareholders agreement to establish a joint venture to operate a shipbuilding business.
"The new company will aim to build a globally competitive shipbuilding business by combining YZJ s high production capacity, Mitsui s extensive sales capabilities and MES-SC s advanced technology," a joint press statement reads.

NPA to sanction CMA CGM, over $400 surcharge, as agents threaten boycott

New equipment to boost PE port s manganese export capacity by 1.8 Mt/y
Transnet Port Terminals (TPT) has taken delivery of the first two of four RAM rotating spreaders that are set to make an additional 1.8-million tons a year of capacity for manganese exports at its Port Elizabeth (PE) terminal.
