Brand-new mega cruise ship fire, Netherlands
Fire erupted in cabin or cabins of a brand-new mega cruise ship AIDAnova at Eemshaven, Netherlands, early in the morning Oct 24. Many fire engines were deployed, fire reportedly, was restricted to one cabin only, and extinguished. No other information available yet. It is not known, as of morning Oct 24, if the accident will delay AIDANova maiden voyage.

Tanker aground, Uruguay river
Product tanker FILYOZ ran aground in the evening Oct 22 on 177 kilometer mark river Uruguay river, downstream from Concepcion city, while en route from La Plata Argentina to Concepcion. As of 1400 UTC Oct 24, tanker was still aground, reportedly awaiting contracted for salvage tug or tugs left Buenos Aires. No leak was reported. Tanker strayed off fairway and grounded, cause unknown.

IRISL Linked to Three Tankers at Sadra
Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL) has placed an order for three 113,000 dwt tankers at compatriot shipbuilder Iran Marine Industrial Company (SADRA), Intermodal said in a shipbroking report.
The newbuilds are said to be scheduled for delivery in 2020. Further details about the price and specifications of the ships were not disclosed.

Konecranes Awarded Khalifa Port Automation Contract
UAE s Abu Dhabi Terminals (ADT) has selected Konecranes to supply an automated stacking crane (ASC) system for the second construction phase of its container terminal in Khalifa Port.
The second phase of the Khalifa Port Container Terminal (KPCT) involves a large expansion of the terminal area, infrastructure, container handling capacity, and the delivery of 54 Konecranes automated rail mounted gantry (ARMG) cranes.

Daitoh Trading Tied to Orders for Five Tankers
Japanese shipping company Daitoh Trading has been linked to orders for five chemical/product tankers with compatriot builders.
According to data provided by Intermodal, the company has placed an order for three 16,000 dwt vessels with Japan s Fukuoka Shipbuilding, and for an additional two units with the shipbuilder s subsidiary Usuki Shipyard.

World s 1st LNG-Powered Aframax Completes Maiden Voyage
Sovcomflot s Aframax crude oil tanker Gagarin Prospect completed its first voyage across the Baltic and North Seas from Primorsk to Rotterdam powered by LNG as fuel.
The ship delivered a cargo of 104,815 tonnes of crude oil on October 22, 2018, marking its first export delivery of Russian crude oil under a long-term time-charter contract between SCF and Shell.
