MacGregor, CSSC Sign Deal on Strategic Cooperation
MacGregor, part of Cargotec, and China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) have signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) on a strategic cooperation.
The LOI, which was signed on October 29, 2018 in Beijing, relates to MacGregor s planned acquisition of the marine and offshore businesses of TTS Group and future cooperation potential between the two groups.

Port of Rotterdam s Container Volumes Continue to Grow
Port of Rotterdam saw its total throughput drop by 0.4% in the first three quarters of 2018, compared to the same period a year earlier. Container volumes continued to grow at a markedly higher pace than the first nine months of 2017, even recording a new all-time high in August.

IMO Eyes Tougher Measures to Reduce Marine Plastic Litter from Ships
The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has adopted an action plan which aims to enhance existing regulations and introduce new supporting measures to reduce marine plastic litter from ships.
The action plan stipulates actions to be completed by 2025, which relate to all ships, including fishing vessels. The concrete measures and details will be further considered by MEPC 74.

DP World, NIIF to Build Free Trade Warehousing Zone in India
A joint venture of DP World and National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (NIIF) has won the bid to develop and operate the Free Trade Warehousing Zone (FTWZ) at India s largest container gateway - Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT).
Hindustan Infralog Private Limited (HIPL), the JV between Dubai s port and terminal operator (65%) and India s fund manager (35%), is to build FTWZ for USD 78 million.

Virgin Voyages Orders Another Ship from Fincantieri
Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri has signed a contract to build a fourth cruise ship for the cruise ship company Virgin Voyages. Under the contract, which is valued at around EUR 700 million, the new vessel is scheduled for delivered at the end of 2023.
The new vessel will be a sistership of the three ships already on order with Fincantieri.

Two ships attacked, one hijacked, all communications lost
Two cargo ships were attacked by pirates in West Africa waters on Oct 29. One managed to escape, another one was hijacked. I ve been contacted by crew relatives, who re understandably, very worried. They ve been told by crewing company, that connection with the ship was lost, manager and other involved parties are taking all necessary measures.

Tallink ro-ro disabled, in trouble off Swedish coast
Ro-ro ferry REGAL START suffered a blackout at around 0900 UTC Oct 30 near navigational mark Remmargrund, east of Kappelskar Sweden, while en route from Kappelskar to Paldiski Estonia. The ship drifted onto navigational mark and managed to stop drift by dropping anchors. Remmargrund and ferry sustained slight damages. Tugs were sent to assist disabled vessel.

Balearia Unveils Construction of World s 1st Dual-Fuel RoPax Fast Ferry
Spanish ferry company Balearia has announced the construction of a fast ferry for passenger and cargo powered by dual-fuel LNG engines, described as the world s first such ship.
The Incat Crowther 125 design is a new class of ferry, being the first to use dual-fuel reciprocating engines and will also be one of the largest fast catamarans in service once it is delivered in summer 2020.

Pirate Whaler Used to Attack KSL Sydney Blown Up
EU NAVFOR military personnel seized and destroyed an active pirate action group (PAG) whaler, which was used in an attack against the Hong Kong-flagged bulk carrier KSL Sydney earlier this month.
The bulker was fired upon in the Gulf of Aden, while transiting the area on October 16. The shots were fired from a skiff that tailed the vessel, some 340 nautical miles off the coast of Somalia in the Somali Basin.

Seafarers Warned of Abu Sayyaf Kidnapping Threat
Ship masters and crew are urged to exercise extra vigilance when transiting the waters off Eastern Sabah and Sulu-Celebes Seas, Asian piracy watchdog said, due to a threat of being kidnapped by Abu Sayyaf Group.
Aby Sayyaf is one of the most violent jihadist groups in the southern Philippines, notorious for kidnappings for ransom.

Chemical Leaks from Container on Board RoRo in Zeebrugge
A chemical has leaked from a container carried on board Finnish Ro-Ro M/S Mistral at the Port of Zeebrugge, Belgium, in the afternoon of October 29.
"We can confirm that one of the containers on board M/S Mistral leaked a substance. The container was immediately removed from the ship and intervention teams were present instantly. The contents of the container was pumped into another container. The situation was solved safely and quickly," spokesperson of the Port of Zeebrugge told World Maritime News.

Skangas Inks Deal with Gothia Tankers to Supply New Tankers with LNG
Norwegian LNG provider Skangas has entered into an agreement with parts of the Gothia Tanker Alliance for the supply of LNG as fuel.
The new agreement comprises current as well as new vessels with LNG propulsion soon to come.
Swedish shipping companies that will get the advantage of the supply agreement with Skangas are Furetank Rederi AB, Erik Thun AB and Rederi AB Alvtank.

Philippines short-lists three company groups for LNG terminal project
The Philippines has short-listed three different groups to build and operate its first liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal and hopes to nominate one by November, its energy minister said on Tuesday.
Short-listed companies were chosen from 18 groups that submitted proposals for the project, Alfonso Cusi told Reuters on the sidelines of the Singapore International Energy Week.

Port Of Gothenburg Container Traffic Up by 20%
Freight volumes passing through the Port of Gothenburg during the year to date are as follows. Container traffic is up 20% compared with the preceding year, and energy product flows remain consistently strong. New car figures rose by 4% but now appear to be levelling off, albeit at a high level.

Bulk Sector Prospects Positive But Challenges Ahead
The bulk sector is navigating its way out of the doldrums but market correction has come at a price, delegates attending Bulk Terminals 2018 learned last week.
Speaking in Hamburg at the annual conference of the Association of Bulk Terminal Operators, Frachtcontor Director Frank Grone said that while the bulk segment is slowly but steadily working its way out of the doldrums with a positive cash flow, he reminded delegates that 60mdwt was scrapped in 2015 and 2016 at "ridiculous prices", while financing banks took serious "haircuts" leaving bulk carrier owners faced with a complete wipe out of their invested capital.

Greece s Gastrade launches market test for Alexandroupolis LNG terminal
Greek natural gas company Gastrade on Tuesday launched a market test for a liquified natural gas terminal it is developing in northern Greece.
Companies interested in seeking services and capacity in the terminal must submit non-binding expressions of interest within 45 days, it said.
