Panama Canal to Welcome 234 Cruise Ships in Upcoming Season
The Panama Canal expects to receive approximately 234 cruise ships through the Panamax and Neopanamax locks during the upcoming 2018-2019 cruise season.
The first transit will occur on Oct. 5 with the Seven Seas Mariner, on a northbound transit travelling from the U.S. West Coast to the U.S. East Coast.

SEA\LNG Coalition Welcomes MPA Singapore
The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore has joined SEA\LNG, a multi-sector industry coalition aiming to accelerate the adoption of liquefied natural gas (LNG) as a marine fuel.

Cargo ship and tanker seriously damaged in collision, river Don
Product tanker GLORIA and cargo ship VOLGO-DON 147 collided on river Don near Bagaevskaya village, assumedly at night Oct 2. Ships were moving in opposite directions, tanker was sailing upstream (most probably in ballast), while cargo ship, loaded with 4300 tons of barley, was sailing downstream, bound for Kavkaz port, Kerch Strait. Both ship sustained considerable damages. VOLGO-DON 147 suffered forecastle damages up to windlass, which is inoperable, also hull breaches, water ingress reported. Tanker sustained heavy bow stern damage and hull breaches in bow area, with ensuing water ingress. Both ships understood to be brought to anchor near collision site.

Ghost ship sank, Myanmar
Container ship SAM RATULANGI, which on Aug 27 drifted ashore some 7 nm off Thongwa, Gulf of Mataban, Myanmar, while being under tow to a shipbreaking yard, sank, said Myanmar Maritime Authorities on Oct 3. The ship remains above waterline, as can be seen on photo, she is resting on bottom. Maritime Authorities ordered wreck removal from shipowner.

Anthony Veder, Bunker Connect Ink Bunker Deal for ARA Ports

New LNG Carrier for NYK, Tokyo Gas Named at JMU Shipyard
Energy Glory, a new LNG carrier for NYK and Tokyo Gas, has been named at the Tsu shipyard, part of Japan Marine United Corporation (JMU), in Japan.
NYK and Tokyo LNG Tanker, a subsidiary of Tokyo Gas, have a long-term charter contract for this vessel. The 122,800-ton Energy Glory is the third ship to be jointly owned by NYK (30%) and Tokyo LNG Tanker (70%).

India: Muted cargo growth making port companies cautious on investment
Since the last few years, a narrow-ranged port cargo growth of 4-5 per cent has made the domestic port sector cautious about its short-term investment plans.
"At this juncture, (from the industry perspective) it is difficult to think of building port capacity entirely for the third-party cargo. With the muted cargo growth that we (industry) have had it would be risky," said an official with JSW Infrastructure.
