K Line Takes Delivery of New Coal Carrier
Japanese shipping company Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (K Line) has taken delivery of a 100,000 dwt-type special coal carrier, the Shonai Maru.
The so-called Hekinan MAX coal carrier was handed over from Imabari Shipbuilding s Marugame Shipyard on November 15, 2018.

Seanergy Concludes Refinancing of Bulker Championship
Greek dry bulk shipping Seanergy Maritime Holdings Corp. has concluded the refinancing of the 2011-built Capesize M/V Championship through a leasing agreement with Cargill International SA.
The refinancing has released approximately USD 7.8 million of liquidity for the company.

Sovcomflot Scores USD 149 Mn Loan for Atlanticmax LNG Carrier
Russian shipping company Sovcomflot (SCF Group) has signed a new USD 149 million loan to finance the construction of a new generation 174,000 cbm Atlanticmax LNG carrier.
The 10-year long credit facility was secured by a consortium of three banks: ING Bank, KfW IPEX-Bank GmbH, and Credit Agricole Corporate and Investment Bank.

HHI Receives First Cyber Security-Ready Notation from ABS
Classification society ABS and Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) collaborated to develop cyber security requirements for the ABS Cyber Security-Ready (CS-Ready) Notation for marine assets.
The classification society issued HHI the first-of-its-kind CS-Ready Notation to a large-scale commercial vessel, a very large crude carrier (VLCC), delivered in November.

Increased Bunker Cost Widens HMM s Loss
South Korean shipping company Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM) widened its loss in the third quarter of 2018 as bunker cost climbed up. The company s net loss reached KRW 166.7 billion during the quarter, compared to a net loss of KRW 60.3 billion reported in the third quarter of 2017.

BOA Management Readies to Lift Norwegian Sinking Frigate
Norwegian offshore service provider BOA Management has started preparatory work for the salvage of now almost completely submerged Norwegian frigate Helge Ingstad.
The work is said to be supported by DNV GL as an external consultant. The plan is to gradually lift the vessel and transfer it to one of semi-submersible barges of BOA Management.

Vard Starts Building Ponant s Electric Hybrid Cruise Ship
Norwegian shipbuilder Vard has held a steel cutting ceremony marking the start of construction of a polar exploration vessel for French cruise company Ponant.
The shipbuilding process for the new unit, to be named Le Commandant Charcot, was launched on November 6 at Vard Tulcea in Romania.

Mombasa Port hits five new highs as hourly output rises
The Port of Mombasa is edging closer to attaining 48-hour turn-around time for bigger vessels after consistent record performances at the facility.
In the last five months, the Kenya Ports Authority has registered four record performances.

Jaya Container Terminal s transshipment volume up 23.3%
The state owned Jaya Container Terminal (JCT) of Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA), witnessed the highest growth of 23.3% in transshipment container throughput for the first nine months (from January to September) in 2018 as against the corresponding period in 2017.

SC Ports Achieves Record Container Volume in October
South Carolina Ports Authority (SCPA) announced the highest monthly container volume in its history, with 217,035 twenty-foot equivalent container units (TEUs) handled in October. Last month s record-breaking volumes marked an 18.7 percent year-over-year increase in container volume growth.

Jordan eyes new refinery at port of Aqaba as it vies to reduce energy imports
Jordan wants to build a refinery at Aqaba, to process Iraqi crude from a planned pipeline linking Basra to the Red Sea-facing port, as the country aims to reduce its energy imports by 2020, its oil minister said on Tuesday.
"Currently the refinery [at Zarqa] is being upgraded. If there will be a pipeline from Iraq, we will be looking to build a new refinery in Aqaba," Hala Zawati said.
