Safe Bulkers Secures New Loan, Concludes Refinancing
Monaco-based dry bulk shipping company Safe Bulkers has concluded its refinancing actions with a USD 51.4 million loan facility.
Namely, the company accepted an offer letter to refinance the loan secured by 4 vessels, part of which would expire in 2022, by extending the relevant tenor by 2 years and pushing back the balloon payments to 2024, concluding its refinancing actions.

Seafarer Dies after Being Struck by Container in Dublin
A Filipino seafarer died after a container struck him at Southbank Quay, Ringsend, Dublin, on November 14, when he was doing lashing work while container lifting operations were underway, the International Transport Workers Federation (ITF) informed.
The ill-fated mariner was a crew member of the Antigua and Barbuda-flagged containership MV Francop.

Fincantieri to Extend Three Windstar Cruise Ships
Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri has signed a contract to extend three cruise ships owned and operated by Seattle-based Windstar Cruises.
Under the EUR 200 million (USD 227.1 million) worth contract, the shipbuilder would undertake an extension and modernization project on Windstar s cruise ships Star Breeze, Star Legend and Star Pride.

Turkish, Dutch Cargo Ships Stuck Overnight after Colliding in North Sea
Turkish flagged general cargo ship Paksoy 1 collided with the Dutch EEMS Cobalt in the evening hours of November 15, about 25 kilometers northwest of Borkum, Germany.
The German maritime authorities said that all 21 crew members on board the two ships were safe and that no injuries were reported.

Japan Launches New Whaling Mission in Southern Ocean
Japan deployed its ships for a new whaling operation in the Antarctic Ocean on November 12, according to local media reports.
As part of the country s latest "research whaling" mission, the ships departed from Shimonoseki, Yamaguchi Prefecture, to catch 333 minke whales through March 2019.

Hudson Shipping Hires Diana s Panamax
Greek dry bulk owner Diana Shipping has entered into a time charter contract with Hudson Shipping Lines Incorporated for one of its Panamax dry bulk vessels, the M/V Thetis.
The gross charter rate for the 2004-built ship is USD 10,650 per day for a period of minimum fourteen to maximum seventeen months.

First Steel Cut for Carnival Cruise Line s Newest and Largest Ship
Finnish Meyer Turku shipyard cut the first steel today for Carnival Cruise Line’s newest 180,000-ton ship set to debut in 2020.
The new vessel will be the first-ever ship operating in North America to use liquefied natural gas (LNG) as well as the largest Carnival cruise ship ever constructed.

TORM Optimistic of Product Tanker Long-Term Prospects
Danish shipping company TORM saw its earnings plunge in the third quarter of 2018 driven by historically low levels in the product tanker market.
The company s net loss for the period reached USD 24.9 million, compared to a net loss of USD 4.2 million reported in the same quarter a year earlier.

Panama looks to build logistics business along the canal as transits and transhipments boom
Following strong year in terms of growth in vessel transits, the Panama Canal Authority is once more turning its attention to building up port capacity as well as building new zones for increased logistics activity.
In the keynote speech delivered at this week s TOC Americas Container Supply Chain, Panama Canal Authority administrator and chief executive Jorge Quijano, told delegates that while vessel transits were its primary business barometer, ports activity had become increasingy important to the country as a whole.

Gujarat private ports record 16% traffic growth in April-October
Private ports in Gujarat have reported a healthy growth of 16 per cent in cargo handling for the first seven months (April-October 2018) of the fiscal. At 113 million tonnes of cargo handling for the period, the share of private ports in the overall cargo handling at all non-major ports in the State stood at 50 per cent.

Costa Rica Shipping Port Looking to Have a Big 2019
The Presidential House estimates that the new Moin terminal will serve up to 10 boats per week next year. The Dutch concessionaire APM Terminals was recently given the go ahead to start commercial operations.
The first ship to arrive was the Captain Beatrice with 2,500 refrigerated containers. 300 of them went down to the port to be filled with national products to export.

ICTSI names new APAC head
nternational Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI) has appointed Andrew Dawes as Senior Vice President and Regional Head of Asia Pacific, replacing Christian R. Gonzalez, who has been named Global Corporate Head.
Mr. Dawes will be directly responsible for the management and development of ICTSI’s Asia Pacific portfolio outside of the Philippines.
