Tanker explosion, 3 crew died, Nakhodka, Japan sea
Explosion occurred on board of bunker tanker ZALIV AMERIKA in cargo tanks at around 0830 LT (UTC +10) Nov 2 in Nakhodka Port waters, near Mys Astafyev Cape, Primorye, Russia, Japan sea. 2 crew were killed by explosion, 1 was thrown overboard and later found dead. There was no fire after explosion. According to insiders posts in social nets, fuel gases exploded in empty cargo tanks, their reports confirmed by local media photos Tanker was towed from explosion site at Nakhodka port entrance to tankers anchorage, AIS is on.

ITF, Saudi Arabia Agree to Support Seafarers in Local Seaports
The International Transport Workers Federation (ITF) and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have committed to work closely together to support seafarers in all of the country s ports.
On October 21, 2019, Essam M. Alammari, the IMO Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, met Steve Trowsdale, ITF Inspectorate Coordinator, and Mohamed Arrachedi, ITF Arab World Network Coordinator, at ITF House.

Capital Product Partners Eyes Scrubbers for Six More Ships
Greece-based Capital Product Partners L.P. (CPLP) is looking to equip at least six more vessels with exhaust gas cleaning systems in the coming period following the completion of the first scrubber retrofit, the shipping company revealed in its Q3 2019 financial report.
M/V Agamemnon, one of the CPLP s containerships, recently completed the installation of a scrubber and ballast water treatment system, passing its special survey.

UN: Shipping Industry Needs a New Propulsion Revolution for Zero-Emission Future
If emissions from the maritime industry are not cut, we are headed for "an environmental disaster", Isabelle Durant, the deputy head of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), told the Global Maritime Forum summit on October 30, 2019.
Durant s views were echoed by the UN s International Shipping Organization (IMO), whose spokesperson, Lee Adamson, pointed out that current levels of emissions from shipping are "not acceptable", and that the industry needs a "new propulsion revolution", to completely cut emissions from the sector.

Tankerska Next Generation Boosts Earnings in Anaemic Spot Market
Croatian tanker owner and operator Tankerska Next Generation has improved earnings for the third quarter of 2019 in what it described as an "anaemic" spot market in the MR sector.
The company said it was able to optimally employ its vessels in a market driven by trade conflicts and geopolitical instability.
Out of a total of 552 maximum possible exploitation days in the three-month period, Tankerska Next Generation generated 368 days on time charter with an average gross daily hire of USD 16,162.

New headquarters for Port of Antwerp nautical and technical employees
The Nautical & Operational Cluster (NOC) at quays 602-612 has now officially entered service. All technical and nautical employees of Port of Antwerp have moved to their new workplace, and the services have finally been centralised. The Shipping Police will also move into this site in November. The ceremonial opening was held on 25 October.

Shipowners Knock Task Force Over Return Of Traffic To Lagos Port Roads
The Nigerian Shipowners Association of Nigeria (NISA) yesterday said Presidential Task Force On Clearance of Apapa Gridlock in Lagos, headed by Kayode Opeifa, has failed in its assignment of restoring normalcy to the ports road.
Speaking to members of the Shipping Correspondents Association of Nigeria (SCAN) yesterday during a roundtable discussion, the president of the Association, Mallam Aminu Umar said several companies have vacated the port environment.

Improved Technology Platform VUMPA Eases Maritime Procedures in Panama
Earlier this month, the Panama Canal and the Panama Maritime Authority (AMP) upgraded their Panama Maritime Single Window System (VUMPA, for its acronym in Spanish). This joint effort will not only further optimize national maritime procedures required for international vessels visiting Panama, but also demonstrates how technology can be leveraged to improve efficiency and reduce carbon dioxide emissions in the logistics industry.
