Bulk carrier RILA disabled, towage, South Atlantic
Bulk carrier RILA was disabled on Dec 7 and started drifting off Brazil coast south of Recife, while en route from San Lorenzo Argentina to Pula Croatia, ETA Dec 27. On Dec 10 bulk carrier was taken on tow by Brazilian tug REGULUS (IMO 9541734). As of 0630 UTC Dec 12, RILA was still under tow approaching Salvador anchorage, Brazil.

Koch Charters Diana Shipping s Panamax
Greece-based dry bulk owner Diana Shipping has signed a time charter contract with Singapore s Koch Shipping for one of its Panamax bulkers.
Under the agreement, the company s 77,901 dwt Ismene was hired at a gross charter rate of USD 12,125 per day.

LNG Carrier Loads 1st Corpus Christi Commissioning Cargo
The LNG carrier Maria Energy, chartered by Cheniere Marketing, has loaded the first commissioning cargo of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the Corpus Christi liquefaction facility in Texas.
The move marks the first export of LNG from the state and from a greenfield liquefaction facility in the lower 48 states, according to Cheniere Energy.

Maritime Industry Eyes Blockchain for Seafarer Certification
Maritime Blockchain Labs (MBL), founded by blockchain technology and governance companies BLOC and the Lloyd s Register Foundation, has established a consortium that will pilot a blockchain-based seafarer certification system.
The project aims to streamline and expedite processes that can be marred by a lack of verification for safety documentation, paper-based certificate management and a lack of access to validated safety and training certifications of seafarers.

IMO MSC to Tackle Safety Issues Related to Marine Fuel Use
The IMO s Maritime Safety Committee has committed to take actions to tackle safety issues related to the use of marine fuel amid impending challenges following the entrance into force of the 2020 sulphur cap.
The committee met in London, on December 3-7, 2018 to confirm its exclusive competence regarding safety issues relating to the use of ships fuel oil.

GPA Expects to Reach Highest Yearly Volumes Ever
The Georgia Ports Authority is on track to reach 4.36 million TEUs in 2018, its highest volumes ever in a calendar year. The performance would mean an increase of 8 percent, or 312,385 TEUs, compared to 2017.
"Cargo expansion related to growth in inland markets, as well as increased demand right here in the U.S. Southeast have shifted the global logistics arena in Savannah s favor, with more port users choosing to serve their customers via Georgia’s deepwater terminals," said GPA Executive Director Griff Lynch.

BIMCO Unveils Two 2020 Sulphur Clauses
BIMCO, the world s largest shipowner association, has published two sulphur content related bunker clauses aimed at facilitating the industry s switch to low sulphur fuels in 2020.
The two clauses are BIMCO 2020 Marine Sulphur Content Clause for Time Charter Parties and BIMCO 2020 Fuel Transition Clause for Time Charter Parties.

Venezuela: Security Risk to Vessels Visiting Jose Terminal on the Rise
Security related incidents experienced by vessels visiting Jose Terminal, in Venezuela, have been on the rise over the recent period.
There were three attempted vessel boardings, and six actual boardings of bulk carriers and product tankers anchored in the vicinity of the terminal in 2018, according to the data from the International Maritime Bureau.

BW LPG Praises Its Crew for "Serious and Damn Good Seamanship" following Pirate Attack
Singapore-based owner of gas carriers BW LPG revealed that the crew of its LPG carrier BW Frigg thwarted a pirate attack on October 29.
As World Maritime News reported, a group of armed pirates attacked the LPG tanker while it was carrying out bunkering operations, around 101 nautical miles West of Pointe Noire, the Republic of the Congo.

Kolkata Port gets first 1.6 lakh tonne full cape vessel cargo
The Kolkata Port Trust on Sunday received second cape size dry bulk cargo vessel at Sandheads, a senior KoPT official said.
"This is the first time that the entire 1.65 lakh tonne cargo in this voyage is meant for Haldia. This vessel will offload it s entire cargo here and not move to other east coast port," Kolkata Port Trust chairman Vinit Kumar told PTI.

At 461 MT, major ports witness 4.83% jump in cargo traffic in Apr-November
These top ports had handled 439.96 MT cargo during the corresponding eight-month period of the last fiscal.
"The major ports in India have recorded a growth of 4.83 per cent and together handled 461.21 MT of cargo during the period April to November, 2018 as against 439.96 MT handled during the corresponding period of previous year," Minsitry of Shipping said in a statement.

US Ports: Monthly imports reach 2 million containers for first time as retailers continue rush to beat tariffs
Imports at the nation s major retail container ports have set another new record, reaching 2 million containers in a single month for the first time as retailers continued to bring merchandise into the country ahead of a now-postponed increase in tariffs on goods from China, according to the monthly Global Port Tracker report released today by the National Retail Federation and Hackett Associates.
