Milaha to Upgrade Its Mesaieed Shipyard
Qatar-based maritime and logistics company Milaha has selected project management and engineering consultancy firm Royal HaskoningDHV to develop plans to upgrade its shipyard facilities in Mesaieed.
The company said that the decision was made in preparation for further growth in current markets and expansion into new areas of operations.

Rough Weather Grounds Cargo Ship, Tug in the Midst of Towing Operation
Cyprus-flagged general cargo ship Thea II ran aground off the East Yorkshire coast, England, on Saturday evening, December 15.
The UK Coast Guard said that the vessel s crew sent a distress call on Saturday afternoon, indicating the ship lost power and dragged anchor three nautical miles east of Spurn Point in the North Sea.

World s Fastest RoPax Ferry Named in China
Sweden s oldest passenger shipping company Rederi AB Gotland Group named its new roll-on/roll-off passenger vessel M/S Visborg on Saturday, December 9, in Guangzhou City, capital of south China s Guangdong Province.
The LNG-powered ferry is being built by Guangzhou Shipyard International Company, part of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), and it is 200 meters long and has the capacity to accommodate 1,730 passengers.

General cargo ship fire, Singapore Strait
Fire erupted on board of general cargo ship AVENTADOR, anchored at Batu Ampar anchorage, Batam island, Indonesia, Singapore Strait, in the morning Dec 15. One of generators exploded at around 0730 LT, followed by fire, which spread around superstructure. Tugs and firefighters were deployed, fire was extinguished, 5 crew on board safe.

Turkish freighter suffered cargo shift, heavy list in Strait of Dover
General cargo ship FG LEVENT suffered timber cargo shift, developed heavy list and went NUC in the afternoon Dec 15 in Strait of Dover, while en route from Antwerp to Algeria. The ship reportedly, was taken on tow by French SAR tug and towed to Anchorage north of Calais, new port of destination Dunkirk, so most probably, she s in need of cargo fix with port facilities.

Thun Tankers Names Natural Gas-Powered Tanker
Swedish shipping company Thun Tankers has named Thun Evolve, its new, environmentally friendly tanker. The naming ceremony took place in Groningen, the Netherlands, on December 15.
The 9,500 cbm tanker will be long-term leased by Sweden-based Preem and delivered to the fuel company at the end of March 2019.

Ukraine Seaports Increase Cargo Handling By 0.6% In 2018
Ukrainian seaports in January-November 2018 handled 121.5 million tonnes of cargo, which is 0.61% more than a year ago.
"It was possible to improve the performance of the previous year due to the increase in cargo volumes of the metallurgical and agrarian industry, as well as containers," the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority said on its website.
