SwissMarine Hires One of Diana Shipping s Capesize Vessels
Greek dry bulk owner Diana Shipping has entered into a time charter contract with Geneva-based SwissMarine Services for one of its Capesize dry bulk vessels.
Under the agreement, the company’s 179,362 dwt Capesize Seattle would be hired at a gross charter rate of USD 16,000 per day.

Hoegh LNG to Provide FSRU to AGL s LNG Project
Norway-based Hoegh LNG has been selected for the provision of a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) for AGL Energy s new LNG import project in Victoria, Australia.
The company said it entered into an FSRU time charter with AGL Shipping to facilitate its proposed Gas Import Jetty project at Crib Point, Victoria, that is targeting start up in 2020 - 2021.

BIMCO: Dry Bulk Demolition Takes a Nosedive in 2018
Dry bulk demolition has significantly decreased in 2018, dropping by 71.6% to only 4.2 million dwt scrapped by mid-December, according to BIMCO.
A major factor behind this fall has been an almost total halt in Panamax demolition, which accounted for only 3%, while demolition in every ship segment decreased.

MAIB: Seatruck Pace Crew Member Dies after Suffering Serious Injury
A crew member of the ro-ro cargo ship Seatruck Pace died following a serious injury while the vessel was alongside in Liverpool on December 17, 2018.
The UK Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) said it had launched an investigation into the incident.

New CEO to Take Over the Reins of K Line
Yukikazu Myochin has been appointed the new Representative Director, President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Japanese shipping company Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (K Line).
Myochin will take over the role from the current CEO Eizo Murakami on April 1, 2019. Murakami will continue his career at K Line as Chairman of the Board, taking over the position from Jiro Asakura.

Tanker again disabled by fire, New York
US Coast Guard New York is coordinating the response to a disabled asphalt tanker AMBER BAY that suffered an engine room fire as it began to depart the New York Harbor area, Dec 19 night. Tanker with 22 crew aboard had a fire ignite in the engine room shortly before 8:00 p.m. LT. The crew was able to quickly extinguish the fire using their installed fire suppression system.

Iranian cargo ship sinking in Caspian sea, rescue under way
Iranian News Agency ISNA reported, citing Iranian Navy, sinking of an Iranian freighter NARGOL in Capsian sea near Astara port entrance, southwest Caspian sea, Iran. The ship left port at around noon Dec 20, bound for Azerbaijan, and somehow, under unknown circumstances, was breached, with ensuing water ingress.

Ocean Network Express (ONE) and PSA Singapore (PSA) have unveiled their plans to form a joint venture company based at Pasir Panjang Terminal in Singapore.
Subject to regulatory approvals, the joint venture terminal is scheduled to commence operations in the first half of 2019 and operate four mega container berths with a combined annual handling capacity of 4 million TEUs.

MSC Bellissima Casts Off for Sea Trials
MSC Bellissima, the second of the Meraviglia generation of cruise ships, being built for MSC Cruises at Chantiers de l Atlantique in Saint-Nazaire, France, left the yard on Wednesday, December 19, for its first round of sea trials.
The shipbuilder said that the sea trials would last four days and that there were 450 technicians and engineers on board the ship, who will test its equipment and performance. The ship was floated out from the yard on June 14, 2018.

Pirate Skiffs Surround Crude Oil Tanker in Arabian Sea
A number of pirate skiffs have surrounded a crude oil tanker in a latest incident reported in the Arabian Sea, according to piracy watchdog ReCAAP.
The incident, which involved the 2017-built tanker Nord Lavender, occurred southeast of Bab Al Mendeb Strait on December 13, 2018.

Oslo-listed Borealis Finance acquired a 2012-built, 4,250 TEU containership named Argos for USD 14.5 million.
The ship was delivered to the company on Wednesday, December 19, according to a regulatory filing.

A joint-venture formed by DP World and SMS group aims to reduce container handling costs and improve speed, energy efficiency and safety with a new and intelligent storing system at Jebel Ali Terminal 4.
