Piracy and high seas crime growing, becoming more sophisticated, UN Security Council told
International maritime crime is becoming "increasingly sophisticated" as criminal groups exploit jurisdiction and enforcement challenges on the high seas and pose "immediate danger to people s lives and safety", the UN anti-drugs and crime chief warned the Security Council.

Missile cruiser contacted supply ship during replenishment in the Atlantic
Missile cruiser USS LEYTE GULF and Navy supply vessel ROBERT E. PEARY experienced contact during replenishment operation in the Atlantic off the southeastern coast of the U.S. at around 1600 LT Feb 5, the Navy announced Tuesday. The ships were operating with the Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group.

Tough Market Conditions Force Team Lines to Close Its Doors
Hamburg-based container feeder operator Team Lines said it would discontinue all business operations as of February 11, 2019.
The company opted for the move on the basis of deteriorating market conditions in Northern Europe over the recent years, combined with the ongoing consolidation process in the maritime sector which makes a continuation of Team Lines activities unsustainable.

NY/NJ Port Reaches 7 Mn TEU Milestone
The Port of New York and New Jersey witnessed a record-breaking year as it handled over 7 million TEU in 2018 for the first time in its history.
The record-setting amount of cargo, totalling over 7.17 million TEUs, exceeded the previous year s numbers by almost 7 percent, allowing the port to maintain its position as the busiest on the East Coast and the third busiest in the nation following Los Angeles and Long Beach.

Hapag-Lloyd First to Convert Large Containership to LNG
German shipping major Hapag-Lloyd has revealed its plans to retrofit its 15,000 TEU ship Sajir to operate using liquefied natural gas (LNG).
The contract for the retrofitting was signed last week with Hudong HONDHOA Shipbuilding, the company said, adding that the conversion would be carried out in the Shanghai-based shipyard Huarun Dadong Dockyard.

InTank BWTS Gets USCG Approval
Houston-based ballast water systems provider Envirocleanse LLC, division of Charter Brokerage LLC, has received a type approval from the US Coast Guard for its inTankTM BWTS, which treats water during the voyage.
According to the USCG, the system was examined and tested by an independent lab of DNV GL.

Cameroon: Douala-Bonaberi port welcomed 3,306 ships in 2018
The Douala-Bonaberi port (PAD) reported it welcomed about 3,306 ships overall in 2018, including 1,059 vessels in international or long-distance shipping and 2,247 in local or cabotage shipping.
The port also announced it handled up to 11,616,035 tons of goods with 8,530,122 tons for imports and 3,085,913 for exports.

Trade organizations happy with level of engagements on cargo disinfection exercise
Trade organizations have lauded the level of consultation among them, the Ministry of Health and LCB Worldwide towards the implementation of the cargo disinfection exercise at Ghana s sea ports.
The organizations in 2018, raised concerns over the absence of stakeholder deliberation on the disinfecting of cargos, cars, vans and other vehicles visiting the ports leading to the suspension of the exercise last year.

DP World Handles 71 Million TEU And Reports 2.9% Volume Growth In 2018
DP World handled 71.4 million TEU (twenty-foot equivalent units) across its global portfolio of container terminals in the full year of 2018, with gross container volumes growing by 1.9% year-on-year on a reported basis and 2.9% on a like-for-like basis Gross volumes were stable in 4Q2018 despite softer volumes in the UAE and the tough year-on-year comparables (4Q2017 grew by 10.3%).

H-vision: blue hydrogen for a green future
In H-vision sixteen parties, predominantly from the port of Rotterdam industrial area, collaborate in a detailed study to explore the large-scale production and application of blue hydrogen in the Rotterdam industrial area.

Crane collapsed onto ship, Indonesia
Mobile crane crashed onto cargo ship POWER JET, while offloading a boiler for palm oil factory, in the afternoon Feb 4. POWER JET was berthed at Dwikora Port, Pontianak, western Kalimantan, Indonesia. Reportedly, operator of crane wasn t injured, though it took some time to get him out. It is said, that crane collapsed not because of boiler being too heavy to handle, but because it wasn t properly unlashed. It is not clear if collapsed crane was ship s crane, or port s crane. Operator was a local, port s worker.
