Container ship troubled in Aegean sea, fixed problem and resumed sailing
Container ship CS TINA started to drift in Aegean sea northeast of Kea island, Greece, at around 1500 UTC Apr 2 after engine failure. Master didn t request assistance or sent distress message. Greek Coast Guard ship approached disabled container ship and was monitoring her until crew repaired and restarted engine, resuming voyage at around 2000 UTC same day. CS TINA is en route from Turkey to Malta, as of 0530 UTC Apr 3 she was under way east of Kithira Island, Greece.

USCG Medevacs Hoegh Trotter s Crewman off Florida
A 27-year-old man has been medevacked from the Post-Panamax vehicles carrier Hoegh Trotter due to concussion-like symptoms, the US Coast Guard informed. Coast Guard Sector Miami received a call in the afternoon hours of April 2, informing that a crewmember aboard the Hoegh Trotter was suffering from concussion-like symptoms.

Frontline s Aframax Duo Hits the Water in China
Two giant oil tankers, being built for Frontline, were launched successively from New Times Shipbuilding s drydock, Jiangsu Province of China, on Sunday, April 1. The two Aframax tankers were ordered in 2015 and are set for delivery in July and August 2018. Based on the data available on VesselsValue, the two 111,000 dwt oil tankers are intended for the Alpha8 Pool.

India s First US LNG Cargo Arrives on Board Meridian Spirit
India has received its first LNG cargo from the United States, gas utility company GAIL said. The Denmark-flagged Meridian Spirit carrying 120,000 tons of cargo docked at Dabhol on March 30, 2018. GAIL hired the ship in September 2017 to transport gas from the US. The 165,500 cbm Meridian Spirit arrived after 25 days of voyage and docked for unloading.

Qatargas, EGAT to Work Together on LNG Solutions
Qatargas Operating Company Limited (Qatargas) and the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) have inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in order to "explore collaborative efforts in the LNG business". Under the terms of the MoU, the parties intend to jointly identify and evaluate best practices in the LNG industry, particularly in the sharing of knowledge and expertise in procurement of LNG, LNG transportation, and floating storage and regasification units (FSRU).

Balearia s 1st LNG-Fueled Ferry Hits the Water
Balearia s first of two LNG-fuelled ferries, Hypatia de Alejandria, has been floated out at the Italian shipyard Cantiere Navale Visentini. Now the vessel will undergo final outfitting as it nears its delivery date set for early 2019.
The Spanish owner is investing around EUR 200 million in the two eco-efficient smartships which will be the first gas-propelled RoRo passenger ferries operating in the Mediterranean Sea, and among the largest ferries in Europe.

Crew Navigation and Safety Training at SeaTrade 2018
Earlier this month I was fortunate to be invited to take part in a panel at the 2018 Seatrade Cruise Global Safety & Security Symposium. The topic being Crew Navigation and Safety Training, I was joined by Captain Bill Anderson (Director of the Pacific Maritime Institute and NSAP, MITAGS-PMI), and Morgan Turrell (Deputy Director, Office of Marine Safety, National Transportation Safety Board). Our moderator, John Sifling (Principal, Broad Reach Maritime LLC), kept the panel very interesting with detailed questions on a wide range of navigation and safety training issues and current practices present in the industry. This article will summarize and share some of the main insights which I hope you will find relevant.

Turkish naval chief, JCSC chief discuss maritime security
Turkish Naval chief Vice Admiral Adnan Ozbal called on Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Zubair Mahmood Hayat on Monday in Rawalpindi to discuss maritime security in the region.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), matters of bilateral interest were touched upon in detail in the meeting. Gen Hayat also highlighted the recent Indian atrocities in held Kashmir.

SEACOR Marine Announces Change of Chief Financial Officer
SEACOR Marine Holdings Inc. (NYSE:SMHI) announced today that Matthew R. Cenac has stepped down as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, effective as of April 1, 2018. Mr. Cenac joined SEACOR Marine as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer in June of 2017, and has played a key role in the Company s transition following its spin-off from SEACOR Holdings Inc. Mr. Cenac will provide consulting services to the Company for a period of six months following his departure in order to assist the Company with the transition of his duties.

NIMASA to save nine-man crew held on Lagos water
The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) is to investigate why the remaining nine crew members on board of two vessels held on Lagos water by the Nigerian Navy have not been released.
NIMASA, it was gathered, is working towards their release to assure national and international seafarers that the country is not above international law.
A senior official of the Federal Ministry of Transport (FMoT) told The Nation, that the crew were on board MT United Trader and MT United Ventures.
