Nisshin Shipping Boosts Ultramax Order at Nantong Xiangyu
Japanese shipowner Nisshin Shipping has reportedly ordered six Ultramax dry bulkers at Nantong Xiangyu Shipbuilding and Offshore Engineering. The order includes options for three more 63,500 dwt newbuildings, according to the data from Asiasis. The value of the deal has not been disclosed, however, the firm ships from the order are said to be scheduled for delivery in 2020.

Marella Explorer Launched in Majorca
UK-based Marella Cruises has launched its newest cruise ship, Marella Explorer, following the vessel s refurbishment process. The launching ceremony was held in Palma, Majorca, on May 17.
Speaking on the occasion, Chris Hackney, Managing Director of Marella Cruises, said: "The launch of Marella Explorer marks an exciting time for us as she is the first ship to officially launch under the Marella Cruises name."

IMO MSC Approves New Ship Routes in Kattegat, Skagerrak
The IMO Maritime Safety Committee (MSC) has approved a joint Danish-Swedish proposal for new ship routes in Kattegat and Skagerrak. As informed, the work is already in progress and the new routes will be in place from July 1, 2020.
The proposal by Denmark and Sweden was first approved by the IMO Navigation, Communications and Search and Rescue (NCSR) Sub-Committee in February this year.

Grimaldi Christens New PCTC in Halifax
Grande Halifax, a pure car & truck carrier (PCTC) owned and operated by Italian Grimaldi Group, has been christened in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The christening ceremony for the 63,000-ton ship took place at Halterm/Autoport on May 16, 2018. Built at the Chinese shipyards of Jinling, the Grande Halifax has a length of 199.9 meters, a width of 32.26 meters, and a cruising speed of 19 knots.

Cargo Throughput Declines at Port of Hamburg
Germany s Port of Hamburg saw a 7.5 percent decline in its total throughput during the first quarter of this year. Total throughput dropped to 32.7 million tons in Q1 2018 from 35.4 million tons recorded in the corresponding period a year earlier.
As explained, this year s Q1 throughput was notable for a rise in conventional general cargoes, a lower figure of bulk cargoes, a stable trend in container handling and distinct growth on container transport services by rail.

COSCO Shipping Ports Enters Strategic Alliance to Enhance Supply Chain Services
In an effort to boost growth, COSCO Shipping Ports has entered into a strategic alliance with GLP and Eshipping to develop terminal extended services and port supply chain platform.
The port operator has signed a cooperation memorandum of understanding (MOU) with GLP China Holdings Limited and Eshipping Global Supply Chain Management (Shenzhen) Company Limited to form a strategic partnership. As informed, cooperation of the three parties will begin in China at CSP s terminals and gradually expand into its global network.

Hamad Port receives record number of vessels in April
Hamad Port has achieved yet another milestone as it received the highest number of vessels in April. A total of 148 commercial vessels called at Hamad Port which is the highest monthly number ever recorded since the start of operations at the port.
Additionally, QTerminals handled a record-breaking 122,825 Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units (TEUs) containers in April which is a 17 percent increase over the previous month. Qterminals was set up by Qatar Navigation (Milaha) and Qatar Ports Management Company (Mwani Qatar) to manage the portn total, 130 commercial vessels had called at Hamad Port in March, compared to 120 vessels in February and 137 vessels in January this year.

Brand-new jetty at Rotterdam LBC Tank Terminals ready for vessels
LBC Tank Terminal Rotterdam recently accomplished a major milestone in their expansion project known as Rainbow with the birthing of the first vessel at a brand-new jetty. The LBC Tank Terminals Group is currently focused on expanding the LBC Rotterdam site in the Botlek area of Rotterdam, the petrochemical heart of the Port.
The jetty is a result of a constructive collaboration between the Port of Rotterdam and LBC Tank Terminals and is an essential asset to meet the demands of LBC s customers and facilitate the growth ambitions of the LBC Rotterdam site. The aim of the project is to triple the current capacity and significantly improve jetty and land infrastructure.

Dallas company secures permits to expand crude export hub at Texas port
Jupiter MLP LLC, a Dallas-based logistics company, has secured permits to expand a crude export dock at the Port of Brownsville in Texas, the latest in a series of moves made by U.S. companies to tap into booming overseas shipments.
The expanded dock space will be able to accommodate Suezmax-size vessels, the company said in a statement Thursday. Privately-held Jupiter has also begun the permitting process to build an offshore supertanker loading facility six miles (9.6 km) off the coast of Texas.

Kalmar to help Borg Havn IKS improve productivity and sustainability with first automation retrofit of two Kalmar RTGs
Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has been awarded a contract for the automation retrofit of two Kalmar rubber-tyred gantry cranes (RTGs) by Borg Havn IKS, Norway. The order, which also includes a one-year maintenance and support agreement for the automation software, was booked in Cargotec s 2017 fourth quarter order intake. The project is scheduled to be completed during Q4 of 2018.
Borg Havn is a marine terminal located in Fredrikstad, southeast Norway. The terminal has an annual throughput capacity of approximately 150,000 TEUs, and the port authority is aiming to make it a forerunner in both sustainability and the adoption of modern automation technologies.
