Thai tanker detained in Vietnamese waters for illegal fuel trading
Vietnamese Coast Guard stated on May 25, that CG ship detained tanker SIAM VARICH with some 1,700 tons of fuel on board, in South China sea some 90 nm off Con Dao island, southernmost Vietnam. The ship didn t carry flag, cargo on board didn t have respective documents, all 11 crew (understood all Thai nationals) didn t have certificates and other documents proving their qualification and rank. Master of tanker admitted, that he was engaged in illegal fuel trade in the area, understood selling fuel to fishing vessels. Fire on board of cargo ship, Almeria, Spain
Fire erupted on board of general cargo ship SAN TRELA, docked at Almeria Spain, early in the morning May 25. Fire was quickly extinguished by fire engines, but in some 3 hours it rekindled, so firefighters had to be called again. Fire was extinguished, extent of damages unknown, but the fire wasn t major one. The ship is understood to be either abandoned or in a lay-up, latest AIS dated May 2015. Kidnapped Containership Captain Freed.
The Bulgarian captain of a Portuguese-flagged cargo ship who was kidnapped along with seven other sailors by pirates off the coast of Benin last month, has been freed, Bulgaria s foreign ministry said on Monday.

Singapore to allow crew changes where seafarer contracts have expired.
In a move forward in getting crew changes happening again Singapore has broadened "special circumstances" to include the end of the seafarer s contract and is exploring options with the industry and unions including specially chartered flights.

Dozens of Australian cruise ship performers finally on way home after extended COVID-19 quarantine.
After more than 70 days stuck at sea, dozens of Australian performers on cruise ships are finally heading home, due to land on home soil tonight.
The performers - from various states including Queensland, Victoria and South Australia - were working on Royal Caribbean ships when the coronavirus pandemic began and have been stuck off the Florida coast since March.

India: Cargo volume at major ports slip 21% in April; Chennai, JNPT severely hit
The country s 12 major ports recorded a 21 per cent decline in cargo volumes at 47.42 million tonnes (MT) in April this year, mainly due to the coronavirus outbreak, according to the Indian Ports Association (IPA).
Ports like JNPT, Chennai, Cochin and Kamrajar witnessed a huge decline in cargo handling, according to the latest data.
India has 12 major ports under the control of the Centre - Deendayal (erstwhile Kandla); Mumbai, JNPT; Mormugao, New Mangalore; Cochin, Chennai, Kamarajar (earlier Ennore), V O Chidambarnar, Visakhapatnam, Paradip and Kolkata (including Haldia) that handled 705 million tonnes (MT) cargo in the last fiscal.Posted On:26-May-2020
