Israel Ports complete NIS 2.5b bond issue
The ports company received AAA and Aa1 ratings from S&P Maalot and Midroog. Israel Ports Development & Assets Company yesterday completed a NIS 2.5 billion bond issue, with demand totaling NIS 5.1 billion. Ports Development & Assets obtained ratings of AAA from S&P Maalot and Aa1 from Midroog for the offering. The high rating was based primarily on the company s close link to the state, with Midroog writing, "The dependence between the company and the state is very high, and special support for the company is very likely". Midroog added that a loosening of the connection between the state and the company was "liable to lead to a significant downgrade."

Russian ports pay a heavy price for coal shipments to Asia
In Nakhodka, a fine dust pervades the air and blankets the streets like a black shroud. During winter, fresh snow turns dark and the frozen bay of the Russian Pacific port is covered with a thick layer of filth. The source of this pollution? The port terminals, where huge piles of coal lie in the open air, waiting to be shipped to Japan, South Korea, China and elsewhere across the Asia Pacific. "Even when the wind is not blowing, the coal dust easily reaches us. It is like living in a coal mine" says Sergey Dorenko, a resident of Cape Astafieva, located right next to the terminals. "When the weather is windy, it s impossible to stay outside."
