Teekay s FPSO Charter Contract for Cheviot Terminated
Teekay Offshore Partners’ charter deal for the Petrojarl Varg floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) unit has been terminated, according to a company statement.
Under the contract, signed between the company s subsidiaries and Alpha Petroleum Resources Limited (Alpha Petroleum) in October 2018, the vessel was to operate on the Cheviot oil field on the UK continental shelf.
The deal was for a seven-year fixed term from first oil, which was targeted for the second quarter of 2021, after a life extension and upgrade phase for the Petrojarl Varg taking place at Sembcorp Marine s shipyard in Singapore.
The effectiveness of the agreement remained subject to a number of conditions precedent being satisfied, including that Alpha Petroleum provide initial funding to cover life extension and upgrade costs.
"As a result of this condition precedent not having been satisfied by the prescribed contractual deadline, this agreement and all commitments related thereto, have now been terminated and as such the partnership and its subsidiaries will be immediately pursuing a range of alternative deployment opportunities for the Petrojarl Varg," Teekay Offshore explained.
Chris Brett, President Teekay Offshore Production, said that the company is looking forward "to advancing the next project for the Petrojarl Varg, which could still include the Cheviot development under a revised financing model."

Desgagnes Christens, Launches Polar Class Tanker Duo
Canadian shipping company Desgagnes held a double christening and inauguration ceremony for its new polar class tankers on June 20.
The ceremony for the dual fuel/LNG vessels Paul A. Desgagnes and Rossi A. Desgagnes was held at the Port of Quebec. Featuring almost 15,000 dwt and tanks with a capacity of more than 17,000 m³, the ships were built at the Besiktas shipyard in Turkey.
With the additions, Desgagnes completed its more than CAD 200 million investment plan launched in 2015 for the construction and commissioning of four new vessels.
Each vessel represents an investment of CAD 50 million, of which close to CAD 9 million for each ship was solely for the purpose of adding a dual fuel/LNG engine.
"The addition of the Paul A. Desgagnes and the Rossi A. Desgagnes demonstrates Desgagnes vision and leadership in sustainable development in a tangible way, as well as its commitment to its customers to offer a first-class marine petroleum transportation service that represents quality, safety and respects the environment," Louis-Marie Beaulieu, President and Chief Executive Officer, said.
Previous ships in the series, the Damia Desgagnes, the world s first dual fuel asphalt plant, and the Mia Desgagnes, the world s first dual fuel polar-class petroleum-chemical tanker and sister ship to the two inaugurated today, were christened at the Port of Montreal in 2017 and 2018.

Ocean Cleanup Redeploys Its Plastics Collecting System
After tweaking its plastics collecting system over the past four months, The Ocean Cleanup redeployed the revamped System 001/B last week.
"After only four months of design, procurement, and assembly, the crew is now on their way to the Great Pacific Garbage Patch with the upgraded System 001/B," the company informed via social media.
Being towed by the Maersk s supply vessel Maersk Transporter, the system is scheduled to arrive at the test site on June 25.
After a couple of years of various tests, the system failed two months after being deployed and was towed to Hawaii for inspection and repair. The company earlier explained that the System 001, which was deployed into the Great Pacific Garbage Patch in September 2018, needed final fine-tuning before it could start harvesting plastic at full potential.
The Ocean Cleanup confirmed many key assumptions of the design, but also encountered two unscheduled learning opportunities during the period – the system did not maintain a sufficient speed, allowing plastic to exit the system, and a stress concentration caused a fatigue fracture in the HDPE floater.
In mid-January 2019, the Wilson system completed its 800-mile journey and arrived in Hilo Bay, Hawaii.
The latest campaign would test the various modifications that were made to the system.

BC Ferries Moves Forward with Green Investments
Canadian ferry owner and operator BC Ferries is continuing with numerous investments aimed at reducing the company s environmental footprint.
In fiscal 2019, BC Ferries invested CAD 241.1 million (around USD 183 million) in capital expenditures.
The company financed vessel upgrades and modifications, new vessels, IT projects, terminal building upgrades and terminal marine structures, reinvesting its earnings for the abovementioned period.
As informed, BC Ferries consolidated net earnings stood at CAD 52.2 million (USD 39.6 million) in fiscal 2019, compared to CAD 59.9 million seen a year earlier.
The company experienced its highest vehicle traffic levels ever in fiscal 2019, with passenger traffic levels being the second highest in the company’s history. Specifically, vehicle traffic increased 1.9 percent and passenger traffic 1.2 percent over the prior year.
"High traffic volumes allow good financial results which enable us to expand our service to communities, renew the fleet, upgrade terminals, pay down debt and reduce future borrowing," Mark Collins, BC Ferries President and CEO, commented.
"These are essential for a sustainable and environmentally-friendly ferry system. Our CAD 3.9 billion 12-year capital plan addresses the need for a more resilient ferry service."
BC Ferries now has five vessels operating on liquefied natural gas (LNG). While still a fossil fuel, it is a cleaner and less expensive fuel source than the ultra-low sulphur diesel used for the other vessels. The cable ferry, which operates between Buckley Bay on Vancouver Island and Denman Island, has smaller power requirements than a traditional ferry, leading to a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions of approximately 50 percent.
Moreover, the company currently has two Island Class electric battery hybrid ships under construction for service to coastal communities on Northern Vancouver Island. When electric technology matures and electricity is available in the quantities required, BC Ferries plans to operate them as fully electric ferries.
During fiscal 2019, the company also re-introduced the upgraded Spirit of British Columbia into service. The vessel, followed by the second Spirit-class ferry, Spirit of Vancouver, underwent the LNG conversion in Poland.
In May 2019, BC Ferries issued a request for proposals for technical services to reduce underwater radiated noise from its vessels. This is expected to help reduce impacts on southern resident killer whales.
"Continued investment to reduce our environmental footprint is of great importance to BC Ferries," Collins pointed out.
"We are on a path to greater sustainability by continuously developing and implementing innovative and cost effective ways to minimize our impact on the coastal environment in which we operate," he concluded.

London Gateway Port Champions Automation To Chalk Sustainable Global Pathways
As an island nation the U.K. is served by several ports to keep its supply chains going. A key cog in the country s port infrastructure is the London Gateway Port, located on the north bank of the River Thames in Thurrock, Essex, some 30 miles east of central London.
Operated by DP World (NASDAQ:DPW.DI), a global company formed in 2005 by the merger of Dubai Ports Authority and Dubai Ports International, the deep-water port opened its docks back in November 2013 and as such remains a relatively recent addition to the British ports roster.
