Container ship grounding
Container ship PERSEUS reportedly ran aground while entering Torshavn, Faroe Islands, on Jun 24. Two tugs were deployed to refloat the ship. PERSEUS left Torshavn on Jun 25, bound for Reykjavik, so understood she didn t suffer significant damages.

Bulk carrier troubled in Suez Canal
Bulk carrier ARMONIA suffered engine failure while transiting Suez Canal in northbound convoy at around 1520 UTC Jun 25, between 9 and 12 kilometer marks, near Port Said. Understood she was brought to anchor, resumed transit around 2100 UTC, and was brought to anchor on Port Said Anchorage at around 2330 UTC, not clear if under own power or by tugs. At 0730 UTC Jun 26, bulk carrier was in the same position. ARMONIA arrived from Yemen, presently waiting for orders.

Jun 23, container ship ALORBA collided with Palmrain Bridge (Weil at the Rhine) because the mechanics of the cabin failed. The second captain was able to get to safety in the last second.

LR Bags Support Deal for Mozambique FLNG Project
UK-based maritime classification society Lloyd s Register (LR) has received a support contract for the Coral South FLNG project in Mozambique. The company s scope of work covers design, procurement, certification, construction, integration and commissioning, as well as providing classification services under a risk based inspection regime when the FLNG enters service in 2022.

Owner and operator of gas carriers BW LPG has called Dorian LPG to return to the negotiating table, only weeks after its takeover proposal got rejected.
BW LPG sent an open letter to Dorian LPG regarding its combination proposal, under which Dorian shareholders would receive 2.05 BW LPG shares for each Dorian share.

India, Seychelles sign pacts for cooperation in cyber security and sharing of white shipping info
India and Seychelles today signed six agreements in key areas, including cyber security, and on sharing of white shipping information that would enable the two countries to exchange data regarding identity and movement of non-military commercial vessels. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-in), the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, and the Department of Information Communications Technology of Seychelles on cooperation in the area of cyber security.
A twinning agreement on the establishment of friendship and cooperation between the Corporation of the City of Panaji and the City of Victoria of the Republic of Seychelles was signed. A key MoU was inked on sharing white shipping information between the Indian Navy and the National Information Sharing and Coordination Center of Seychelles.
This pertains to exchanging data regarding identity and movement of non-military commercial vessels. Seychelles, an east African island nation, is crucially located along one of the important Sea Lanes of Communication (SLOC). A pact was signed between Foreign Service Institute of the Ministry of External Affairs and the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Seychelles for training of Seychellois diplomats.
Agreements to promote cultural exchange programmes between India and Seychelles for the years 2018-2022 and Indian grant assistance for implementation of small development projects through local bodies, educational and vocational institutes were also signed.

Collision and grounding, Russian Inner Waterways
General cargo ship NEVA-LEADER 7 collided with swing gate when entering Lock 2 of Volga-Baltic Canal on 869 kilometer mark, at 0305 Moscow time Jun 25. The ship struck gate by portside bow section. Gate sustained damages, understood traffic wasn t suspended, Lock s operable. The ship, loaded with birch logs, didn t suffer damages and continued voyage.

World Fuel Services Getting Ready for 2020 with Upgrades at Falmouth
World Fuel Services (WFS) revealed plans to upgrade terminal facilities and introduce a new supply vessel at its current supply location in Falmouth, UK.
As informed, apart from the upgrade of the terminal facilities, the investment includes an extension of exiting bunkering options with the introduction of Lizrix, a new 2,200 cbm capacity cargo vessel.

Noble Group Offloads One More Kamsarmax
Hong Kong-based commodities trader Noble Group has entered into a sale deal with Fairmyl Shipping Limited and Transmed Shipping Limited for a Kamsarmax dry bulk carrier vessel. The company will cash in USD 23.4 million from the vessel sale which is expected to be completed by September 30, 2018. The net proceeds from the sale after payment of relevant mortgage facility will amount to approximately USD 8.2 million, Noble said.

MMEA detains two cargo ships for illegal fishing off Miri
The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) has detained two cargo ships with 28 Vietnamese crew members for illegal fishing off Miri waters. The MMEA also seized 10 tonnes of fish from the two ships at about 6.30pm on Monday (June 25). The raid was carried out after the MMEA detected the ships during a patrol round.

Ports Must Plan For Electric Charging
Electric powertrains will solve global CO2 emissions challenges but terminals need to account for charging requirements, according to an electromobility expert.
Speaking to GreenPort at TOC Europe, Niklas Thulin, director of electromobility at Volvo Penta, said it was "inevitable" that electric powertrains would effectively tackle CO2 emissions, as well as meet city emissions requirements for ports, however, ports and terminals in the process of electrification need to look at their operations and work out how and where charging can be incorporated as this will help make the transition much quicker.

Fortescue s seventh ore carrier arrives in Port Hedland
Fortescue Metals Group (Fortescue) has welcomed the seventh Fortescue Ore Carrier, FMG Amanda, to Port Hedland with an event attended by Fortescue Founder and Chairman, Andrew Forrest AO and Fortescue s latest Vocational Training and Employment Centre (VTEC) team.
Designed to complement the Company s world-class port infrastructure, when complete, the ore carrier fleet will provide approximately 12 per cent of Fortescue s total shipping requirements while maximising tonnage, improving loading rates and safer manoeuvring through the port and channel.
