Spain : Tanker Quarantined at Algeciras After COVID-19 Outbreak On Board.
The Danish-owned product tanker Samus Swan has been quarantined at the port of Algeciras due to a confirmed COVID-19 outbreak on board.
The Samus Swan arrived in Algeciras on a voyage from Nigeria on Monday. Before arrival, nine crewmembers took a rapid COVID-19 test, and seven tested positive.
Four Filipino members of Samus Swan's crew transferred to a boat and disembarked in Gibraltar prior to the tanker's arrival in Algeciras. They did not have the required visas to enter Spain, according to the Gibraltar Chronicle, and planned to fly out from Gibraltar instead.Posted On:9-Jul-2020

Bulk carrier stuck in Santos, glimmering hope of release
Bulk carrier SEAJOY will hopefully, be released from quarantine at Santos anchorage, which lasted since Jun 23. The ship loaded 63500 tons of soybeans, but was caught when setting sail, with two crew found Chinese virus positive. Understood all crew remain on board, including infected seamen, all being healthy. Jack-up wind farm installation platform ZHEN JIANG suffered water ingress on Jul 4 in Yellow sea north of Shanghai, understood while being positioned on legs, in the process of lifting the house. There were some problems during lifting process, watertight door didn t close automatically or wasn t closed as requested by emergency procedures, and engine compartment was flooded. UK : Crew welfare crisis: Less than a third of seafarers repatriated.
ONLY 30% of necessary crew changes are taking place despite many much-lauded measures to repatriate an estimated 300,000 exhausted seafarers whose contracts have expired but cannot leave their vessels.
Unco-operative authorities, country intake limits, and governments refusing to allow airlines to fly crews to and from their countries of origin continue to stymie crew changes against the backdrop of the coronavirus curbs.

Maritime industry calls for EU political leadership on seafarers.
Due to the heightened humanitarian crisis due to lack of sufficient action by governments in ensuring crew changes happen, European and International maritime industry stakeholders joined forces to seek political leadership and commitment by European leaders to the welfare of seafarers. They urge them to commit to doing everything in their power to promote the facilitation of crew changes by EU Member States and third countries for crew changes to take place without further delays.
As a result of COVID-19 travel restrictions and border closures, hundreds of thousands of seafarers are stranded around the world. Over 250,000 seafarers are currently waiting for crew changes on ships, with some of them having already spent 15 months or more on board. Amid the many consequences of the coronavirus pandemic, thousands of seafarers around the world are now locked onboard their ships with expired contracts and unable to get home. In a normal month, approximately 100,000 seafarers leave their ships and are replaced by others, but travel restrictions imposed by governments, as well as limitations on the availability of international airline flights, have meant that replacement crews cannot get to their ships and relieved crews are unable to get home. Philippine Red Cross Visits Stranded Crew on Abandoned Tanker.
The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) and Philippine government officials recently visited the 15 crew members stranded aboard the Spanish LPG tanker Celanova abandoned by its owners in Manila Bay. A four-man team from the PRC went on board the vessel to provide medical aid and to distribute hygiene kits and food items to the distressed seafarers.
"When we learned about the incident, we immediately sent a team to check on the seafarers conditions and to know what other assistance is needed," said PRC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Senator Richard J.
