Tanker collided with pier, terminal inoperable, Croatia facing oil shortage
Product tanker STI POPLAR loaded with some 27000 tons of fuel collided with oil terminal pier at Ploce, Dubrovnik, Croatia, Adriatic sea, understood on Aug 5, while maneuvering to berth. Pier and oil transfer equipment were said to be heavily damaged, with some crushed parts falling into water. Tanker s stern was also damaged, according to officials, but no leak occurred. Tanker was brought to anchor at Ploce anchorage, for assessment of damages, damages costs and investigation. It is said, that damages sustained by terminal amount to millions of euro, and with terminal being inoperable for at least 7 days, oil supply of Croatia, Bosnia and Montenegro may be hampered.

Freighter battered by sea, crew evacuated
General cargo ship CHIA MING NO.2 in the evening Aug 10 either ran, or was pushed by strong wind and swell, onto mole of Budai port, Chiayi County, Taiwan, Taiwan Strait, on arrival from Penghu islands. As of 1100 UTC the ship was bashing against mole by starboard, 7 crew were evacuated, watch video.

Dorian LPG Invests in Scrubbers, Continues to Evaluate BW LPG s Offer
Dorian LPG has hired scrubber manufacturer K Marine for the delivery of seven hybrid exhaust gas cleaning systems (scrubbers). The investment has been revealed by John Lycouris, Chief Executive Officer, Dorian LPG (USA), in the company s conference call on the second quarter results. The scrubbers will be installed during 2019, ahead of the implementation of the 2020 sulphur cap.

Wilhelmsen Optimistic as Earnings Drop After Abandoned Drew Acquisition
Following the abandoning of Drew Marine acquisition, Norwegian maritime industry group Wilhelmsen ended the second quarter of 2018 in loss.
The group delivered a loss of USD 266 million in the second quarter of this year, compared to a loss of USD 47 million seen in the corresponding period a year earlier. In addition, EBITDA was nil for the quarter, compared to USD 210 million in Q2 2017.

Salalah Port Records Significant Growth In Container And Cargo Volumes
Port of Salalah recorded significant growth in volumes at its container terminal and general cargo terminal during the first half of 2018.
The port s container terminal handled 1.76mn TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) during the first six months of 2018, which is a ten per cent increase against the same period of last year. Its general cargo terminal handled 7.59mn tons of cargo during the first half of this year, an increase of 12 per cent compared to the same period of 2017.

Apapa traffic shoots up container transport cost by over 483%
The rapid increase in the cost of hauling containers from the Apapa Port to warehouses within Lagos is giving importers sleepless nights as the cargo delivery charge is now N700, 000 per container, which is over 483 percent increase against the N120, 000 charged for a 40-foot container and 80, 000 charged for 20-foot container few months ago.
Mr. Jude Okeke, an importer and also the leader of the Association of Progressive Traders (ATP), Trade Fair Complex, posited that this situation will keep on affecting the prices of goods in the market, which will keep increasing.

Brazil Needs $6.7Bn Of New Infrastructure
A study drawn up by the Development Bank of Latin America (CAF) has warned that Brazil needs to invest $6.67bn in port infrastructure by 2040. This investment is needed if Brazil is to be able to incorporate new technological changes that will enter the sector in the years to come and also be able to compete with other regional ports in Latin America.

India: Major Ports Register Positive Growth of 4.13% during April to July, 2018 Vis-A-Vis the same period last year
Deendayal (Kandla) Port handled the highest volume of traffic i.e. 38.76 Million tonnes (16.74% share), followed by Paradip with 35.68 Million Tonnes (15.41% share), JNPT with 23.25 Million Tonnes (10.05% share), Visakhapatnam with 21.52 Million Tonnes (9.30% share) and Mumbai with 19.57 Million Tonnes (8.45%). Together, these five ports handled around 60% of Major Port Traffic.
