VLCC FRONT HAKATA is still at sea reportedly under tow, though no tug visible nearby, moving or drifting in eastern direction at 1-3 knots speed. No information as to why and what s next.
Aug 7 Update : Reportedly, FRONT HAKATA was taken on tow by (according to AIS) offshore supply tug AKATSUKI (IMO 9728966), towage commenced in the morning Aug 7 Tokyo time, destination unknown. Small freighter grounded by storm, Philippines
General cargo ship JERLYN LILY ran aground at around 1200 LT Aug 12 in Legaspi City area, southeast Luzon, Philippines. The ship loaded with copra, with 18 crew on board, was reportedly, driven ashore by stormy weather. No other information available yet.

Halifax Port Authority joins digital global shipping platform
The Halifax Port Authority (HPA) is pleased to announce it has been invited to join a digital global shipping platform developed by Maersk and IBM through a Collaboration Agreement. HPA will participate in a blockchain-focused global trade digitization solution known as TradeLens.
The goal is to develop a highly secure digital ledger system that promotes the sharing of information across the global shipping industry which can reduce costs, improve productivity, increase the speed of the delivery of goods, and provide transparency. The progression of the crane is a case of cause and effect: as ship get bigger, so too must the machinery that handles the cargo onboard - or else costly bottlenecks will surely result. Ports must ensure that their cranes constantly keep up with the times. Malta s towage services: past, present and future
The use of tugboats to assist vessels in and out of our harbours can be traced back to the mid-19th century when steam-propelled tugs were used greatly by the Admiralty, primarily to assist Royal Navy warships in Grand Harbour and the Naval Dockyard. With the passage of time such tugs were also deployed to assist merchant shipping.

A first for the port of Antwerp: innovative autonomous sounding boat with unique technology
A smart port thanks to innovative technology: that s what the port of Antwerp is fast becoming. Now a new milestone has been reached with the introduction of a fully automatic sounding boat that employs unique technology. The vessel, named the Echodrone, is a prototype that is currently being developed to supplement the other operational sounding boat, the Echo. Both of these carry out measurements of the water depth everywhere in the port so as to guarantee safe passage for shipping. The cloud-based technology - a first - has been developed in partnership between the Port Authority and dotOcean and is only one of the many initiatives being taken by the Port Authority in the field of digital innovation.Posted On:13-Aug-2018

A pilot project between GE Transportation and the Port of Long Beach to enhance advance planning at the busiest port complex in North America is officially underway. Over the next two months, stakeholders across the Port will use GE s Port Optimizer™ software to access data that will allow them to move cargo containers more efficiently.
