Liberia: NaFAA Negotiates for 10 Liberian Seafarers to Work on International Tuna Vessels Flying Liberian Flag.
In fulfillment of the CDC-led Government plan to empower skilled and trained Liberian Seamen, the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA) has disclosed that it has secured job opportunities for 10 Liberian Seafarers to board two Liberian licensed international Tuna Fishing vessels.
A NaFAA press release stated that the seafarers will be recruited from the Liberia Seamen and General Workers Union and the leadership has already been duly informed about the job opportunities created by the CDC led Government through NaFAA.Posted On:13-Aug-2020

Coronavirus: Abu Dhabi Ports helps seafarers to return home as restrictions ease.
Shipping crew rotations have resumed in Abu Dhabi allowing scores of merchant sailors to return home after months at sea.
Shipping operations ground to halt as a result of coronavirus-related travel restrictions across international borders, with the sea transport industry one of the worst hit.

Tanker NORDIC WOLVERINE found positive, quarantined
As of morning Aug 12, tanker NORDIC WOLVERINE was still at anchor t Cano Dulce area, west of Barranquilla, Colombia, reportedly assessing damages she sustained while being aground during Jul 19-30. well Colombian authorities decided not to waste an opportunity, ran tests and found three test positive crew members. Scrap fire in cargo hold of Thai bulk carrier, Netherlands.
Fire erupted in cargo hold of a Thai bulk carrier VIYADA NAREE at Dordrecht, Netherlands, in the evening Aug 11. The ship was loading cargo of scrap. Fire reportedly, was quickly taken under control by fire teams. Extent of damages unknown. Three crew died while cleansing cargo tank of tanker, Philippines.
Three crew of tanker ANDRINA 200 reportedly, died of suffocation in a cargo tank, on Aug 10, at Calaca, Batangas, southwest Luzon, Philippines. Seamen were cleansing cargo tank and inhaled fumes from cargo residues on the bottom of tank. They lost conscience, were recovered by other crew and sent to hospital, to be found dead on arrival to hospital.Posted On:13-Aug-2020

Piracy And Armed Robbery Against Ships In Asia.
In July 2020, six incidents of piracy and armed robbery against ships were reported in Asia. Of the six incidents, one was a piracy incident and five were armed robbery against ships.
There was no report of abduction of crew in the Sulu-Celebes Seas and waters off Eastern Sabah, Malaysia in July 2020. However, the abduction of crew for ransom remains a serious concern as demonstrated by the Warning issued by the ReCAAP ISC on 2 July that five Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) members were planning to conduct abduction of crew from ships passing by Tawi-Tawi and Sabah waters.Posted On:13-Aug-2020

Nigeria Convicts First Pirates Under New Maritime Law.
A Nigerian court made the first convictions under a new anti-piracy law, giving hope to the world s shipping fleets that legal reforms will help stem rising attacks in the Gulf of Guinea.
