India : Considerable decline in cargo traffic due to Pandemic: Shipping Ministry
The cargo traffic at India's major ports has declined considerably March onwards, adversely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, the government said on Thursday. COVID-19 impact at major ports started from March 2020, Shipping Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said in reply to a question in the Lok Sabha.
"There was a considerable decline in the total traffic, containers traffic and other than containers traffic in March, April, May, June, July and August, 2020 as compared to the corresponding months in 2019," the minister said. However, recovery has started since June 20, he said.

IMO: Seafarers Issue Of Crew Changes; World Maritime Day Event On 24 September
On Thursday, 24 September 2020, between 14:00-15:00 CET, on the occasion of World Maritime Day, the International Maritime Organization, the International Labour Organization and the United Nations Global Compact will co-host a High-Level Side Event, in collaboration with the International Chamber of Shipping and the International Transport Workers Federation, on the urgent issue of maritime crew changes during the high-level opening week of the 75th session of the UN General Assembly.

Nigeria : NIMASA Securing Sea Time for Cadets Trained Under NSDP .
The Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Bashir Jamoh, has stated that the agency has made progress in securing sea time berths for cadets trained under the Nigerian Seafarers Development Programme (NSDP), despite the limitations brought by the Coronavirus pandemic.
Jamoh, stated this in Lagos following a recent three-month extension granted the 400 Nigerian seafarers undertaking sea time in different parts of the world due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Report : Number Of Indian Seafarers Employed On Vessels Increased.
The number of vessels under Indian flag have increased from 1313 as on 01.04.2017 to 1431 as on 01.04.2020. The tonnages of vessels under Indian flag have increased from 11.55 MT as on 01.04.2017 to 12.68MT as on 01.04.2020. In order to make the shipping industry more attractive and competitive, the Government has taken various measures in recent years.

Kalmar to support DP World s continuing expansion at Caucedo.
Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has signed a deal with long-standing partner DP World for 12 Ottawa T2 terminal tractors and two empty container handlers to be deployed at the DP World Caucedo terminal in the Dominican Republic. The order was booked in Cargotec s 2020 Q3 order intake, with delivery scheduled for Q1 of 2021.
DP World Caucedo is a world-class marine terminal and free zone located in Punta Caucedo, 25 kilometres from Santo Domingo, the commercial and political capital of the Dominican Republic.

Panamax bulk carrier collided with yacht in East China sea.
Bulk carrier LADY I reportedly, collided with 15-ton sailing yacht NW of Jeju northeast tip, East China sea, at around 0310 Seoul time Sep 17, while en route from China to Vancouver. Yacht was severely damaged and lost her mast, but remained afloat. Understood there were no or minor injures. Bulk carrier interrupted voyage and anchored off Yeosu, for investigation. Collision took place at night, so it is highly likely, that it was mainly, yacht s fault.

I ve had a meeting today in Laem Chabang Port, Thailand, with Kerry Siam Seaport Regional Port Logistics Director, Director of an Offshore Marine Services Company, and ThaiOil Marine Ship Agent Manager. We ve been discussing crew change situation in Thailand. As of now, it s similar to that in India - off-sign is OK, for all nationalities, providing off-sign crew members are t-negative and leave country in 24 hours, no prolonged stay allowed.

Eastern Europe crew demand surges on Asian supply nations Covid lockdowns.
Eastern European seafarer supply nations have experienced a surge in demand from shipowners and managers for officers and ratings due to the Covid-19 lockdowns in India and Philippines.
Senior executives from the crewing industry in Poland, Ukraine and Romania told the CrewConnect Europe Virtual Event that they had all seen surge in demand for seafarers over the last six months.

Australia Bans Fifth Ship in 2020 From Ports for Crew Welfare Issues.
Australia is continuing its inspection and enforcement actions against ships sailing in its waters with the penalty of banning ships from its ports as an incentive to ensure fair treatment of seafarers. In 2020, the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) has banned five vessels from its waters bring to 20 the number of commercial vessels banned from Australian ports for anything ranging from three to 18 months over the past six years.

ITF and IMEC contribute $500,000 to Singapore crew change fund.
The International Transport Workers Federation (ITF) and the International Maritime Employers’ Council (IMEC) have jointly contributed $500,000 to a Singapore fund to support countries in best practices for crew change.
Singapore Shipping Tripartite Alliance Resilience (SG-STAR) Fund was set-up in August by Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), Singapore Shipping Association (SSA), Singapore Maritime Officers Union (SMOU), and Singapore Organisation of Seamen (SOS). With initial funding of SGD1m, the fund now totals SGD1.68m ($1.2m).
