Peter Dohle Schiffahrts and Sirius Ship Management srl start a partnership for the crew management in the Philippines
Yesterday in Genoa, Peter Dohle Schiffahrts KG, major shipping company settled in Hamburg and Sirius Ship Management, a leader in the crew management settled in Genoa, start an important alliance for the recruitment, training and career development of the Filipino seafarers in Manila.

The idea was born thanks to the long lasting relationship between Roy Machart, General Manager of Dohle Group and Filippo Guadagna, CEO of Sirius Ship Management, who both share the same values oriented towards the professional excellence and the business growth of their Companies.

This partnership will join in the same venue all activities related to the management, the recruitment and training of a several thousands of Filipino crewmembers that, together with Indians, are the majority of the sailing community of the worldwide shipping industry.

Peter Dohle Schiffahrts has a consolidated experience in training of seafarers in the Philippines having invested in the ETCC (European Training and Competence Centre). This modern maritime training centre, established in 2011 and certified ISO 9001-2008 and conveniently located in the centre of Manila, offers a wide range of maritime training programs and specialized courses that meet and exceed IMO standards and comply with the STCW. Presently, the ETCC, known in the industry as a real lighthouse of the crew training, annually see a number of more than 1.000 course-participants and around 2.000 Pre-Embarkation-Trainees.

"As usually happens, taking part to international association like IMEC, working with foreign colleagues, becomes an occasion to share information, impressions and problems that, strange but true, are same we daily experience, especially dealing with people management", states Roy Machart, General Manager of Peter Dohle Group. "That is what happened to me and Filippo Guadagna: we met and talked and realized that we have to deal every day with the same problems, so we thought that together we could have solved them better. Then we talked with our Owners, proposing them to work together to try to give a better future to our staff, our crew and our Companies and to whom also agree with investing in the crew high specialized training activity as Company to satisfy the present lack of skilled and qualified crew on board as a concrete solution. This cooperation is very exciting, starting from the determination to manage the market and not be managed by it, to go over the present crisis period that the shipping sector is experiencing, like many others. It is not a secret that skilled and trained crew, grown up inside the Company with the sense of Company belonging are the real key of a successful management of the vessels."

"In facts, both our Companies share the strong consciousness that only through the in-house development of crewmembers we can reach a high professional level granting the success of vessels operations mainly in terms of respect of safety and security in this today’s very complex market," states Filippo Guadagna, CEO of Sirius Ship Management. "The Philippines is one of the largest seafarers’ basins, if not the greatest in the world, so it can ensure, at least for certain types of vessels, an important synergy if matching with the training of Italian personnel, sharing on board the same problems with a common Company's approach.

Today we are really celebrating something relevant. The alliance between the Dohle Group and Sirius Ship Management represents for the future a valid option among the existing presently offers. The two companies together will build the career paths of their officers, contributing to their professional growth, their integration with the European culture, making them feel members of an " European " family working in an international environment and not temporary guests in a global market where the economic offer wins but does not last."

Dohle Group originated from Peter Dohle Schiffahrts-KG, which was founded in 1956 in Hamburg by Mr. Peter Dohle as an Agent to Owners ("Vertrauensmakler").
In its early years, the company mainly served the owners of coaster vessels who needed an agent ashore to pursue their commercial affairs, including chartering, operation, and accounting. In the course of the 1960s, the first container vessels were ordered and complemented our fleet.
It now consists of around 500 ships - mainly container vessels, bulk carriers, multi-purpose vessels, and coasters. Over the past six decades, Peter Dohle Schiffahrts-KG has continued to grow, building an efficient network of associated companies. This network helps to offer customers full-scale services along the entire maritime value chain. Today, Dohle operates own vessels as well as part-owned and exclusively managed ships. The family-owned and managed companies currently employ around 7,000 people: 2,000 employees ashore and 5,000 crewmembers on board. This experienced global team includes specialized brokers for individual markets and ships as well as operational and technical experts.

Sirius carries out recruitment activities and management of seafarers in Genoa since 1997. Today it manages about 4,000 seafarers, 18 different nationalities on board tankers and dry vessels, yachts and cruise ships through its offices in Genoa, Mumbai, New Delhi, Kolkata and Manila and thanks to collaborations with agencies in Ukraine and Indonesia. Sirius deals with all formalities related to boarding, individual contracts of seafarers in the name and on behalf of the Owners. It supports the Shipowner in managing the proper rostering sea/shore, to the monitoring of the performances on board and to the career planning. The organization of special "seamen" flights rates is ensured by the Agency of the Baleno Group Travel Freetravel with offices in Genoa and Mumbai. Payslips of crews, tax and social security requirements, monthly management/sending of remittances to families with local negotiations to obtain the best possible banking conditions are part of the Sirius services.
