Ro-ro and container ships collision, Piraeus
Ro-ro cargo ship KAPETAN CHRISTOS collided with anchored container ship STADT DRESDEN on Piraeus outer anchorage at around 1930 UTC Sep 25, on arrival from Nisos Naxos, with 11 vehicles and drivers on board. Both ships reportedly sustained damages, KAPETAN CHRISTOS resumed her voyage soon after accident, called Piraeus and left for Elevsis, at 0700 UTC Sep 26 she was at Elevsis. STADT DRESDEN arrived from Egypt, as of 0700 UTC Sep 26 she was still at anchor.

German Navy corvette damaged in collision, Kiel
Corvette ERFURT collided with Tirpitz mole at Kiel port on Sep 21, cause unknown. Corvette sustained bow damage, and won t participate, as planned, in Baltic sea drills.

Cruise ship SOVEREIGN accident in Naples
Cruise ship SOVEREIGN collided with pier while docking at Naples, Italy, at around 0600 UTC Sep 26, on arrival from Barcelona, Spain. Understood the ship struck San Vincenzo terminal, home to local ferries, opposite to cruise ships Stazione Maritima pier. Accident was caused by strong wind in the area, both cruise ship and pier sustained damages, some ferries trips were delayed.

Rolls-Royce Uses Intelligent Awareness to Turn Night into Day
Mitsui O.S.K. Lines and U.K.-based Rolls-Royce Marine said that they have verified the capacity of Intelligent Awareness and machine learning technologies to improve navigational safety.
The technology was tested in a pilot project on board a 165-meter passenger ferry, Sunflower Gold, which was equipped with the Intelligence Awareness System (IAS).

ADS Crude Carriers to Start Fitting Scrubbers on Its VLCCs
The newly established tanker owner and operator ASD Crude Carriers is about to fit scrubbers on board its very large crude carriers. The company was set up in April this year in Cyprus, with a fleet of three VLCCs, built in Japan as sister vessels. The VLCC owner and operator plans to expand its fleet with more acquisitions.

Pasha Hawaii Cuts Steel for Its 1st LNG-Fueled Boxship
Honolulu-based shipping company Pasha Hawaii has launched the construction process for the first of two liquefied natural gas (LNG) fueled containerships.
The steel cutting ceremony for the vessel, named George III, was held at Keppel AmFELS, a subsidiary of Keppel Offshore & Marine (Keppel O&M).

Cargo ship holed, capsized, 13 crew rescued, China
General cargo ship HAO XIANG 19 in stormy weather ran aground on a reef off Luxi island, east of Wenzhou in Zhejiang province, China, East China sea, issuing distress signal at around 0300 Beijing time Sep 25. The ship loaded with steel, with 13 crew, was en route from Taizhou to Wenzhou. SAR ships were sent, meanwhile the ship developed heavy starboard list caused by hold flooding. 2 of the crew managed to abandon ship in life raft, the rest were trapped on board because all life boats and rafts were were not accessible. By 0530 SAR rescue boats managed to take all 11 crew from the ship, later were rescued 2 crew from life raft. The ship reportedly, capsized.

NIMASA: Search Launched for Kidnapped Crew of MV Glarus
The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) and the country s navy have launched a search and rescue operation for the kidnapped crew of MV Glarus to ensure "they are found and released unconditionally".
To remind, the twelve sailors were taken hostage while the bulk carrier was off Bonny Island in Rivers State on September 22.

GSF: Maersk Urged to Reconsider New Fuel Surcharge Plan
Danish shipping company needs to reconsider its plan to introduce new fuel surcharge arrangements from January 1, 2019, the Global Shippers Forum (GSF) believes.
Earlier this month, Maersk Line said it will change fuel adjustment surcharge to recover presumed costs from the introduction of low-sulphur marine fuel from January 1, 2020.

SCI eyes stake in Swan Energy s Jafrabad LNG port project
Shipping Corporation of India Ltd (SCI) is weighing a plan to buy stake in a 10 million tonnes (mt) a year capacity floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU)-based new LNG port being constructed by Swan LNG Private Ltd off the Jafrabad coast in Gujarat s Amreli district with an investment of ₹4,000 crore, a least two officials at the Mumbai-based firm said.
