Stena Impero Docks in Dubai after 2-Month Detention in Iran
The released tanker Stena Impero safely docked in Dubai in the afternoon hours of September 28, the ship s owner confirmed.
Erik Hanell, President and CEO of Stena Bulk, said that the company met with all the crew. He added that the seafarers "are in good spirits and looking forward to a well-deserved extended leave ashore."
"The sole concern and focus of Stena Bulk & Northern Marine Management throughout this worrying period has been for the safety of the crew and their timely release. Our support for them and their families will continue for as long as is required," Hanell noted.
"Considering the circumstances of the past 10 weeks, the vessel is in good condition, which is testament to the professionalism of the Master and his crew who attended to their duties throughout."
Hanell further noted that the families of crew members have been informed and the company is making arrangements for the repatriation of the sixteen seafarers "at the earliest possible opportunity."
The 46,575 cbm ship was detained near the Strait of Hormuz for alleged marine violations on July 19. After being held in the port of Bandar Abbas for over two months, Stena Impero left Iranian waters last week.
Iran s Ports & Maritime Organization said that, although the ship ban was lifted, the process of investigating violations and announcing the final results of the legal proceeds is ongoing.
Stena Bulk informed that the 2018-built tanker, with a new crew on board, will have a period of time in Dubai, where checks will be made before it re-enters service.

Stolt Tankers Unit Hit by Explosion in Port of Ulsan
An explosion occurred aboard the 2009-built oil/chemical tanker Stolt Groenland while the vessel was docked in Ulsan, South Korea on September 28.
According to the ship s owner, Stolt Tankers, the explosion hit the 43,400 dwt vessel at about 11 am local time at the port s Yeompo Quay.
The Norwegian shipowner said that the 25-strong crew have been safely evacuated with one minor injury reported to one crew member who has received medical attention.
In the evening hours the same day, Stolt Tankers provided an update on the incident, saying that all fire aboard Stolt Groenland was reported as extinguished. Emergency responders were scheduled to continue to maintain a cooling water spray over the ship overnight.
"The ship remains stable, with no cargo or fuel reported as released into the water," the company said
The fire reportedly spread to an adjacent tanker, the 9,118 dwt Bow Dalian, with a crew of 21, that was moored alongside when the incident occurred. The ship had been towed to safety.
Reuters cited the Korean coast guard and fire department officials as saying that the incident on Saturday injured 10 people, most of whom were workers at the terminal.
Relevant authorities have been deployed to assess the full extent of damage. The exact cause of the explosion is yet unknown.

Three Rescued after Bourbon Ship Sinks in the Atlantic
The anchor handler tug supply (AHTS) vessel Bourbon Rhode, that was hit by a category four hurricane in the Atlantic Ocean, has sunk.
Mobilized rescue teams have recovered a lifeboat with 3 crew members inside, according to the French offshore vessel owner Bourbon.
"The 3 crew members are currently taken in charge by the medical support team onboard the commercial vessel, which provided assistance, and are currently placed under medical observation," the company earlier said.
Search efforts for the remaining 11 crew members are in full swing, with support of Cross AG (Regional Operational Center of Surveillance and Rescue) and the French navy, under the authority of the Prefect representing the French national maritime authority.
Five commercial vessels have changed course in order to assist the rescue teams. A Falcon 50 of the French navy as well as the aircraft of the American National Hurricane Center (NHC) conducted numerous overflights of the search area. The French navy s surveillance frigate and helicopter were scheduled to intervene on September 30.
Bourbon Rhode developed a water ingress in the rear part after it was hit by the category four hurricane while headed for Guyana. At the time, the unit was some 1,200 nautical miles off Martinique Island and 60 nautical miles south-south east from the eye of the hurricane Lorenzo in the Atlantic Ocean.

Cryo Shipping Turns to Biogas, Hydrogen as Marine Fuel
Bergen-based bunker supplier Cryo Shipping has received government grants for developing suitable infrastructure solutions for the supply of fully renewable energy as marine fuel.
Although Cryo Shipping was established as a supplier of LNG, the company is now focusing on even greener energy sources such as biogas and hydrogen. It is developing hydrogen bunkering services optimized for the growing hydrogen bunker market in Norway.
"Hydrogen as marine fuel is in an early phase, and … we still have a way to go with regards to developing suitable concepts, technical solutions, regulations and operational requirements," Are Magnussen, Partner and project manager at Cryo Shipping, explained.
The company said it is cooperating with major players in the hydrogen industry, initially serving Norwegian shipowners who are taking early positions as consumers of fully renewable marine fuels.
As the maritime industry is slowly moving towards a clean and renewable future, Cryo Shipping said it "aims to take the lead in the future green energy development".
The company also strives to accelerate the development of LNG as a future marine fuel. Earlier this month, Cryo Shipping conducted its first LNG bunkering operation in Sweden with the cement carrier Greenland being supplied with this green fuel.

Wharfies Stop Work at Port of Newcastle over New Crane
Wharfies from three stevedoring companies at the Port of Newcastle, Australia, have held a 4-hour stop work meeting to protest the arrival of a new bulk unloading crane that could threaten job security, according to the Maritime Union of Australia (MUA).
Work was halted after the port management decided to stop wharfies from driving the new crane.
According to MUA, workers agreed to fight against the Port of Newcastle plans to employ its own workforce which would effectively be a fourth stevedoring operator and undermine the work and available hours in the port for existing stevedoring companies and workers.
"The MUA has demanded the Port of Newcastle withdraw its plans to exclude existing wharfies from their current work," Warren Smith, MUA assistant national secretary, said.
"Management must also consult with stakeholders to ensure any new equipment in the Port of Newcastle is designed to improve overall port productivity, but not at the expense of the working people of Newcastle and their community."
Workers have also pledged to fight for securing a union port compact for all port development including the K2 crane and future container terminal construction and operation.
A Port of Newcastle spokesperson said the port invested AUD 35 million (USD 23.6 million) in a ship unloader "that incorporates the latest safety and environmental compliance features and will deliver efficiencies for customers."
"Stevedore employees experience a high degree of casualisation. Port of Newcastle is interested in creating a number of full-time positions for wharf and crane operators that would provide workers with greater job security and the education and training required to support the operation of the new ship unloader."
The spokesperson added that the port has initiated discussions with the Maritime Union of Australia (MUA) regarding the project. The discussions are at a very early stage, however.
