The CMA CGM BOUGAINVILLE becomes the largest containership in the world sailing under the French flag
The CMA CGM Group, a worldwide leading shipping group, is pleased to announce that the CMA CGM BOUGAINVILLE has entered the group's fleet and becomes the largest containership in the world under French flag. It is the fourth vessel of the 18000TEU series, bearing the names of great explorers. She pays tribute to the French explorer Louis-Antoine de Bougainville, who led, as Captain, the first French official world tour in the 18th Century.
The CMA CGM BOUGAINVILLE: impressive dimensions of the world's largest containership sailing under French Flag.

Largest vessel sailing under French flag, the CMA CGM BOUGAINVILLE was delivered on August 25th. With her 400m length - about 4 football fields end to end - and 54 meters width, this giant of the seas and her extraordinary dimensions, has a capacity of 18,000 TEU (twenty-feet equivalent containers).

The CMA CGM BOUGAINVILLE symbolizes the dynamism of a French group, which became a world leader and a key player of the world’'s global economy.

A vessel serving the world's global economy
Calling at Le Havre every 77days, the CMA CGM KERGUELEN is positioned on one of the most emblematic lines of the CMA CGM Group. The FAL joins Europe to Asia.
In a globalized economy, this gigantic vessel has the capacity to transport almost 200,000 tons of goods between European, Middle East and Asian markets and becomes a key element in such trades. Thanks to its calls in the CMA CGM hubs at Malta and Klang ports, transshipment connections are offered towards worldwide markets.

The CMA CGM BOUGAINVILLE, a vessel at the cutting edge of environmental technologies

Beyond her exceptional features, the CMA CGM BOUGAINVILLE is equipped with all the latest environmental technologies, allowing her to become one of the world's greenest transportation solutions. Thanks to the latest environmental technologies onboard and the optimization of her hydrodynamics, her CO2 emissions/km are historically low.
In fact, the vessel's CO2 emissions average at only 37g of CO2/km for each container, energy efficiency almost three times higher than recorded by the group’s fleet 10 years ago.
The CMA CGM BOUGAINVILLE was delivered by the Korean shipyard Samsung on August 25th and begun its first rotation by calling at Asian ports.
She will call at Shanghai on September 5th, Port Kelang on the 13th, Suez on the 15th and Algeciras on October 1st to finally arrive at Le Havre on October 5th in the morning.

Winds of change gathering speed at the 2015 Ship Efficiency Awards
The shipping industry is increasingly convinced that wind power is a renewable energy source with a viable future within various sectors of the global shipping fleet. As we move in to a volatile future the sector has become accustomed to the idea that a heterogeneous fleet is going to require multiple technology solutions in order to create resilience and cost certainty. Wind is a free, infinitely available source of power. It delivers energy security, cost certainty and ensures owners whose ships have wind propulsion solutions are beyond compliance. Technologies for harnessing the wind at sea have been developed over 1000s of years.

IWSA members are incorporating the very latest research, design, materials and developments to make 21st century solutions for multiple niche sectors of the global shipping fleet.

IWSA is a collaborative organisation and relies on the support of its members. Gavin Allwright, IWSA Secretary said: "Individuals representing competing businesses have been extraordinary in putting their own business challenges aside to work together for the good of the wider industry."

Wind power is represented in 3 different categories at this year's Ship Efficiency Awards 2015, hosted with Lloyd's Register and organised by Fathom which has returned for the second year to showcase an international range of individuals and companies making a significant contribution and commitment to streamlining operations and shaping the future of a greener, leaner more efficient industry. As Norsepower CEO Tuomas Riski states: "we are delighted to be selected as finalists, especially as this year has seen piloting of our Rotor Sail Solution on Bore's RoRo vessel Estraden with excellent results. There are an increasing number of wind propulsion projects in the pipeline and we are greatly encouraged to also have one of our co-operation projects with Deltamarin, the 'Deltachallenger', selected too.

A panel of high level industry experts across the maritime sphere have deliberated and independently scored and selected the short-listers based on the set criteria for each award category. The judges for this year are Lars Robert Pedersen, BIMCO; Craig Eason, Lloyd’s List; Oskar Levander, Rolls Royce; Tristan Smith, UCL and Roger Strevens, Wallenius Wilhelmsen. Katharine Palmer, Environmental Manager from Lloyd's Register chaired the judging proceedings.

Last year's 'One to Watch' Award was won by B9 Shipping/Smart Green Shipping Alliance, another pioneering wind propulsion project and IWSA member.

IWSA (The International Windship Association) is a member driven association that facilitates and promotes wind propulsion for commercial shipping worldwide and brings together all parties in the development of a windship sector to shape industry and government attitudes and policies.

Shahjahan: Payra and Mongla Ports to be launched soon
Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan yesterday said his ministry has been working to launch Mongla Port in Khulna and Payra Port in Patuakhali to lessen the dependency on the country’s largest port in Chittagong.

"The world's 20 big countries have been expressing their keen interest to invest in Payra Port," Shahjahan said while addressing the inauguration ceremony of a newly-built Auction Shed of Chittagong Customs in Bandar Stadium area.

Addressing the event as the chief guest, the minister said BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia will have to face trial for burning people to death in the name of blockade and political programmes.

As regards cocaine consignment, he said none of Chittagong Port was involved with the incident.

The Shipping minister also said the waterlogging problem in the port city will ease soon as the seaport is going to build a sluice gate on "Mohesh Khal" and set up a pump house with its own fund.

Presided over by the port authority's Chairman, Rear Admiral Nizamuddin Ahmed, member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Shipping Ministry MA Latif and Chittagong Customs House Commissioner Hossain Ahmed addressed the programme.

MA Latif said a bay terminal will be set up at Faujdarhat area under Sitakunda Upazila while vested interests are trying to use the place for residential business purpose.
