Friends,

Looking at todays shipping scenario when shipping is doing good, we the seafarers are still the most exploited ones and we are ourselves to blame for it.
What security do we have after  leaving the job at any point or god forbid if any accident happens onboard what do we do? Its high time that our community should wake up and demand round the year wages and retirement benefits as happens in any shore company. The shipowners will also be benefitting from these measures which are long term and can retain its manning and have better outputs from personnels. To them its peanuts as compared to the profits they are earnings but to a seafarer it will be a lifetime security and we truely deserve it by the nature of our jobs and working in all adverse conditions. So all SENIORS please wake up and work for the shipping community and shun the attitude that "I am paid well or doing well so what the heck" . Let us demolish this feeling among ourselves that Indian seafarers are least bothered about a fellow seafarer.  All suggestions are welcome.

Seafaring is a high risk profession as we have to undergo strict medical fitness tests every time we want to join a ship. We all know that if we fail medical fitness then we cannot join ship, also we cannot revalidate our c.o.c. and sit for our next exams. Therefore my advise to all the seafarers is acquire some extra skills apart from shipping in case you need it, so that you can fall back on it and that will help you to continue to support your family financially. Good luck.
