In my last ship my generator was dihatsu.
In the piston it was seen that there were two scraper rings, one below the gudgeon pin and the other just above the gudgeon pin,if this was so,then how was the compression rings above the scraper rings were getting lubricated?

Hi,
The cylinder lubrication is carried out in this particular engine is by applying oil on the cylinder surface between the scrapper rings. By doing so using the small pores in the cast Iron liner holds the lub oil to lubricate the rubbing surface between the rings and the liner surface to reduce the friction. ( in the case of the Crome plated liner the honed surface does this work- and this is the function of the honning we do on the generators.)

Cylinder lubrication is not effective when the cylinder pressure is high or the combustion is being carried out.

Best Regards,

the upper scraper ring serves the purpose of spreading lube on the liner surface
and scraping the oil also.

this lubrication is valid for all loads and combustion conditions
as long as lube oil pressure is more than 3.5 kg
