Bangladeshi Maritime Workers Win Decade-Long Battle For Rights |
Late last month, over 200,000 naujan, or river navigation workers, under the banner of the ITF-affiliated Bangladesh Noujan Shramik Federation (BNSF) won major improvements to their working lives after a three-day strike against the Bangladesh Cargo Vessel Owners Association.
Among the gains, employers have accepted the maritime workers long-standing argument for the payment of food allowances to crew aboard river navigation vessels.

Three More Robberies in Singapore Strait Prompt ReCAAP Action Call. |
The rash of incidents against ships sailing in the eastbound shipping lane of the Singapore Strait is continuing prompting the regional monitoring center ReCAAP to issue its second incident alert in a week and to increase its calls for action. In a span of approximately six hours, three additional incidents were reported bringing the total to 31 incidents so far this year in the region.

23 Indian crew, stuck aboard vessel in Chinese port since June. |
This Diwali is set to be a dark one for the 23 Indian crew members on board merchant vessel Jag Anand that has been stuck at Jingtang port in northern China’s Hebei province since June.
The vessel, owned by Mumbai-based Great Eastern Shipping Company Limited and chartered by freight trading firm Cargill, reached the Chinese port on 13 June, but has been awaiting anchorage since then.

Two cargo ships collided in Wismar harbor in the morning Nov 8, in dense fog. One ship was leaving port, while another was going to berth. According to all available information, leaving ship was general cargo ship ST PAULI, ship maneuvering to berth was general cargo ship FALKBRIS. Both ships were subject to survey, to assess damages. understood both ships sustained slight damages, mostly scratches and dents.

Ferry grounding, Karpathos island, Greece |
Ferry PREVELIS with 109 passengers on board ran aground while approaching next after Rhodes port of call, Diafani, Karpathos island, Aegean sea, Greece. Understood ferry managed to refloat by own means 2 hours later, and according to track, she cancelled Diafani call, heading for final port of destination on her route, Heraklion, Crete. Foul weather said to be the cause of grounding, and probably, call cancellation.
