Maersk Tankers to Equip Four LR2 Ships with Scrubbers
Danish tanker owner and operator Maersk Tankers revealed plans to invest in four scrubbers to be installed on selected long range 2 (LR2) vessels within the company s product tanker fleet.
As informed, one existing LR2 vessel, as well as three LR2 newbuildings within the Maersk Product Tanker fleet will be equipped with scrubbers before January 2020 to comply with the International Maritime Organization s (IMO) sulphur regulation.

DFDS Gets New CEO after 12 Years
Danish shipping and logistics company DFDS has appointed Torben Carlsen new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) after Niels Smedegaard decided to step down.
Niels Smedegaard, who has been CEO of DFDS since January 1, 2007, will resign from his job at the end of April 2019.

Ernst Russ, Peter Dohle Sell Hammonia Reederei
German companies Ernst Russ Group and Peter Dohle Schiffahrts-KG have jointly sold their shares in affiliated ship management company Hammonia Reederei GmbH & Co. KG to Scandinavian investors.
Both founding shareholders of Hammonia JV transferred their shares to Norwegian investment firm Ness Risan & Partners (NRP) and former owners of Containerships Group, Finland.

Spanish Boluda to Acquire Kotug Smit Towage
Dutch companies Royal Boskalis Westminster and Kotug International, 50/50 shareholders of Kotug Smit Towage, have signed a letter of intent (LOI) to sell their joint venture to Spanish Boluda Group.
Under the terms of the LOI, the total enterprise value of Kotug Smit Towage is valued at EUR 300 million (USD 340.2 million).

Wartsila: Shipowners Not Very Concerned about Scrubber Discharge Bans
As the industry sails towards the International Maritime Organization s impending sulphur cap regulation, there seems to be a rise in opposition to one of the widely accepted solutions to the 2020 sulphur cap, the open-loop exhaust gas treatment systems (scrubbers).
Namely, certain ports in China and Ireland have started to implement a ban on wash water discharge from open-loop scrubbers as of the beginning of 2019, while major bunkering hubs Singapore and Fujairah have announced plans to do the same starting from January 1, 2020, when the sulphur cap rule comes into force.

Custom Agents Tackle Shipping Companies over Illegal Taxes
The National Council of Managing Directors of Licenced Customs Agents (NCMDLCA) has called on the federal government to take urgent steps and stop the recent additional shipping charges by shipping companies called "the government and port taxes".
According to the agents, by the action, the shipping companies had violated the provision of the Convention of World Trade Organisation (WTO) Articles VIII 3(b).

Ports of Auckland investment stifles 1st-half revenue growth
Ports of Auckland reported a 16 decline in first-half profit and expects more of the same for another 18 months as its automation investment programme saps capacity and stifles revenue growth.
The port operator said net profit was $24.4 million in the six months to December versus $29.2 million in the same period a year earlier.

India committed to invest $500m in Chabahar Port
India Global Ports Limited (IGPL) is committed to investing up to $500m to develop Chabahar Port in southern Iran as part of series of projects worth hundreds of millions of dollars, a senior official said.
Alireza Jahan, the representative of the Iranian partner of IGPL, said the investments will be made over the next 10 years to equip the port of Chabahar with special loading and unloading harbor facilities.

Busiest U.S. grains port swamped by flooding as exporters await China deal
Flooding and ice buildup on key rivers in the U.S. Midwest has stalled the movement of barges that supply export terminals at the Gulf of Mexico with grain and soy, barge and grain traders said.
One lock on the Ohio River became impassable last week, halting vessels moving to and from the Mississippi River until as late as March 9, they said.

More than 400 political leaders, academics, bankers and global financiers from Europe, Asia and Africa attend the four-day forum that opened on Thursday at Delphi, 120 km northwest of Athens, which ancient Greeks considered the navel of the world.
