Launch of UK Women in Maritime Charter Taskforce
Only 2% of the UK s current maritime workforce are women. It’s a situation, said Associated British Ports new chief executive, Henrik Pedersen, that simply must change.
He was speaking at the launch of the new Women in Maritime Taskforce Charter, an initiative to encourage more women to take up roles in the industry, and one which more than 60 companies across shipping, ports, engineering and naval forces have already pledged to support.

Genco Adds Three Ships, Sheds Older Tonnage
Dry bulk specialists Genco Shipping & Trading Limited has taken delivery of two Capesize vessels and one Ultramax, agreed in the second and third quarters of 2018.
The 2016-built Capesizes Genco Defender and the Genco Liberty, featuring 180,000 dwt, as well as the 2016-built Genco Columbia, with 60,000 dwt, joined the company s fleet in September 2018.

Port of Long Beach Gets USD 50 Mn for Zero Emissions Project
The Port of Long Beach has received preliminary approval for a USD 50 million grant from the California Air Resources Board for a sweeping, transformative demonstration of a near-zero and zero-emissions supply chain at the nation s second-busiest seaport.

DSME Names Ice-Breaking LNG Carrier for Yamal Project
Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) held a naming ceremony for an ice-breaking LNG carrier, which was jointly ordered by Mitsui O.S.K. Lines and China COSCO Shipping, on September 11.
Featuring a length of 299 meters and a breadth of 50 meters, the newbuilding vessel was named the Vladimir Vize. The 172,000 m3 unit is the sister vessel of Vladimir Rusanov, which started transport service at the end of March 2018 under a long-term charter contract to transport LNG for the Yamal LNG Project.

Brand-new luxury yacht KANGA devastated by fire Video
Brand-new luxury yacht KANGA, delivered to her owner in summer this year, and believed to become a star at September Monaco and Cannes boat show, caught fire in the morning Sep 9 while being anchored off Dubrovnik, Croatia, Adriatic sea. 13 people on board were evacuated, all are safe. Firefighters finally, took fire under control, and brought her to Prapanto port, near Dubrovnik. Superstructure was destroyed by fire, the hull heavily damaged. Cause of fire unknown.

Norwegian trawler on fire, 14 evacuated 6 remain on board, North sea
Fire erupted in engine room of Norwegian trawler LANGENES in the afternoon Sep 11, some 80 nm west of Rogaland, Stavanger area, Norway, North sea. CO2 firefighting system was activated, fire said to be suppressed, though as of 1600 UTC situation wasn t yet clear. 14 crew were airlifted to safety by helicopter, 6 remained on board and continued fighting fire. 1 or 2 ships are deployed in salvage.

HHI Workers Plan Partial Strike over Retirement Program
Unionized workers at South Korea s Hyundai Heavy Industries have unveiled their plans to organize a partial strike this week protesting the company s revised retirement program and possible unpaid leave for idle employees.
Yonhap News Agency cited an undisclosed union official as saying that the workers would stop working at a shipyard in Ulsan for four hours on Wednesday, September 13.

Novatek Eyes LNG Transshipment Complex in Kamchatka
Russia s natural gas producer Novatek has signed an agreement of intent on implementing a project for the construction of a marine LNG transshipment complex in the territory of Kamchatka.

DFDS Chooses Scrubbers for Ferries on Mediterranean Routes
Danish shipping and logistics company DFDS has unveiled its plans to install scrubbers on 12 freight ferries deployed on freight routes in the Mediterranean between Turkey, Italy, Greece and France.
Namely, the company will invest up to DKK 300 million (USD 46.5 million) in 2019 to ensure compliance with the new global rules scheduled to come into force in January 2020.

Port of Charleston sets all-time container cargo record
The Port of Charleston set a single-month record in August for the amount of containerized cargo moving through its terminals, breaking a mark set just two months earlier.
