Container ship ALEXANDER MAERSK reportedly arrested in Sfax, Tunisia. The ship docked at Sfax on Sep 8, on arrival from Malta. No other information available. In recent months, the ship called Sfax twice, first call in August also being unusually long, lasting 9 days.

Coastal freighter HEIKO suffered engine room fire on the night Sep 19-20 in Vilnesfjorden, Norway, north of Bergen. Four crew were evacuated, and as of early morning Sep 20, fire reportedly, was still on, with several SAR ships and boats deployed in salvage. Ship s AIS is off for about a year already, so ship s present status, as of 0600 UTC Sep 20, is unknown. She is loaded with sand and stones.

Product Tanker Ransacked by Armed Robbers in Guinea |
A product tanker anchored in Conakry Anchorage, Guinea, was boarded by four armed robbers on September 17, 2018, IMB s Piracy Reporting Centre said.
The vessel in question has been identified as oil/chemical tanker STI Hammersmith, which is listed as part of Monaco-based Scorpio Tankers fleet, based on the vessel s AIS data.

TGE Marine Inks Deal for Tema LNG s Small-Scale FSRU |
Germany s construction engineering company TGE Marine Gas Engineering has inked a supply contract for one of the world s first small-scale floating storage and regasification units (FSRUs).
Under the deal signed with Chinese Jiangnan Shipyard at the end of July, TGE Marine will design and supply the cargo handling system and tank material for the unit.

Product tanker FRES on Sep 19 with 1000 tons of fuel on board ran aground at Kanavas beach, Milos island, Greece, while approaching pier, said Focus News. According to AIS track, tanker ran aground at around 0540 UTC, was refloated in 3 hours, and moored. No leak reported.

Cruise ship NAUTICA broke off her moorings at Greenock, Glasgow, Scotland, as severe wind battered the area, at around 1030 UTC Sep 19. The ship with 478 passengers on board started to drift, 3 tugs were sent to take her under control said Express.co.uk. According to AIS, as of 1500 UTC operation was still under way, with two tugs still at her side. The ship was brought to anchor, but probably needs assistance to hold on against gale-force wind. Gulftainer Signs 50-Year Concession for Port of Wilmington |
UAE-based port operator Gulftainer has signed a 50-year concession deal with the state of Delaware to operate and develop the Port of Wilmington.
Under the agreement, which was signed by Gulftainer s subsidiary GT USA, the company would invest will see an expected investment of up to USD 600 million in the port to upgrade and expand the terminal and to turn it into one of the largest facilities of its kind on the Eastern Seaboard.

Jiangnan Gets AiP for LNG Bunker Vessel Design |
Chinese shipbuilder Jiangnan Shipyard has received an Approval in Principle (AiP) from Lloyd s Register for its 7,500 m3 LNG bunker vessel (LBV) design at this year s Gastech, taking place in Barcelona, Spain.
The vessel is intended to supply gas for ships using LNG as fuel in support of the rapid growth of LNG fuel demand in the marine market, connected to the approaching global sulphur 2020 limit.

Armed Pirates Abduct Two Crew Members in Sulu-Celebes Seas |
Pirates armed with M16 rifles boarded the fishing trawler F/B Sri Dewi 1 while the vessel was underway off eastern Sabah, Malaysia, and abducted two Indonesian crew members on September 11, 2018.
The perpetrators then headed towards Sitangkai, Tawi-Tawi in a motorboat with the two abducted seafarers, identified as the boat master and assistant boat master.

It appears that China s state-run shipping and logistics giant China Ocean Shipping Company (Cosco) could now own the Port of Kaohsiung, the largest harbor in Taiwan, though tax loopholes being exploited in Bermuda make the degree of control exercised by the state-owned corporation on the Taiwanese port murky, according to a report by Nikkei Asian Review.
