Vanuatu inter islands ferry sinking, 75 people rescued
Vanuatu Archipelago inter islands ferry, landing craft LC URATA, reported sinking in the afternoon Jan 10 after water started to flood engine room. In vicinity 17 00S 167 37E, some 70 nm northwest of Port Vila. 60 passengers and 15 crew were rescued by cargo ship YOUNG BLOOD, LC URATA expectedly was to sink at around midnight, but in the morning Jan 11 she was still adrift. Freighter collided with pilot ship in North sea, both damaged
General cargo ship ELKE W collided with reportedly, service/pilot ship WANDELAAR at around 1245 LT Jan 11 northwest of Ostend, Belgium, North sea. Collision took place in very poor visibility, in thick fog. Both ships sustained damages above waterline, both were allowed, after inspection, to sail under own power. ELKE W is en route from Southampton to Antwerp, as of 1530 UTC she was approaching Vissingen pilot station, but before proceeding to Antwerp she s to undergo a survey. WANDELAAR sailed to Ostend, arriving there at around 1500 UTC.
