Container cargo rollovers at major ports increase 75% in December
Average rollover rates at ports surveyed by Ocean Insights increased to 37% in December and in some ports went past the 50% mark. The level of rollovers is calculated on the basis of percentage of cargo from a line that left port on a different vessel than originally scheduled.
The figures from Ocean Insights illustrate the impact the collapse in demand in the first half of last year followed by a 30% surge in demand in the second half of 2020, and a resulting shortage of containers that has left shippers scrambled for equipment to ship their goods in.Posted On:20-Jan-2021

23 Stranded Seafarers From MV Jag Anand Stuck In China Reaches Japan
After much delay, the ship MV Jag Anand with 23 Indian sailors who were stranded in Chinese waters for months due to Australian Coal Cargo ban has finally arrived in Tokyo. The seafarers will fly back to India tonight after they clear COVID procedures.

Philippines: DOTr temporarily bans crew change for non-Pinoy seafarers.
The Department of Transportation (DOTr) extended the ban on all disembarking foreign nationals at any of the countrys crew change hubs to prevent the entry of the new coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) variants through the ports.
The seafarers, meanwhile, only involved those whose vessels called at any of the 37-flagged countries within 14 days immediately preceding their arrival at any of the hubs.Posted On:20-Jan-2021

ICS Calls for Vaccine Priority for Seafarers and Frontline Workers
The International Chamber of Shipping is calling for governments to put seafarers and frontline maritime shore workers at the head of the vaccine queue and to designate seafarers as key workers, to avoid a repeat of the challenges seafarers faced in 2020.

LNG tanker NIKOLAY EVGENOV with LNG shipment from Sabetta, Yamal, Russia, bound for China, was transiting Northern Sea Route, Russian Arctic, in the wake of LNG tanker CHRISTOPHE DE MARGERIE, carrying the first lot. Offshore supply ship driftied onto breakwater, Gulf of Siam
Offshore supply vessel SETIA KILAS drifted onto breakwater at Kuala Terengganu port, easte coast of Malaysia Peninsula, Gulf of Siam, in the morning Jan 18, after her engine failed. Vessel was undergoing sea trials with 7 crew and 3 contractors on board, all of them left the vessel and are safe. Port of Oakland gets its tallest cranes
Recently, the Port of Oakland saw the arrival of the heavy-lifting vessel ZHEN HUA 35 (formerly: ZIRKU). Onboard were the largest cranes the American port had ever seen.
