New regulations to safeguard welfare of Kenyan seafarers
Maritime players have welcomed the Kenya Maritime Authority (KMA) directive on employment of seafarers saying it will protect locals from bogus recruitment agents.

Albanian freighter aground, Lefkada Greece
General cargo ship VELA I ran aground, or probably, drifted aground, in Lefkada Bay, Lefkada island, Ionian sea, Greece, in the morning Jan 25. The ship loaded with stone was en route from Itea, Gulf of Corinth, to Malta. Australian coastal freighter grounding
Coastal freighter TRINITY BAY ran aground on Harrington Shoal while transiting Great Barrier Reef in the morning Jan 19, was refloated in some 2 hours, and continued her voyage to Cairns. Cargo ship disappeared in the Caribbean, search under way
General cargo ship CARMEN 1 with 10 crew on board is missing in the Caribbean off Colombian coast since Jan 21, maritime authorities and all ships in the area have being alerted on Jan 23.
