German container ship invaded by drug traffickers, intercepted at sea
Container ship ROTTERDAM EXPRESS reported to Colombian Maritime Authorities unauthorized presence of unknown persons on board, shortly after leaving Cartagena Colombia, bound for Dominican Republic, on late Jan 27. Coast Guard and Navy were sent to ROTTERDAM EXPRESS, which according to AIS, reduced her speed. Teams of commandos, immigration and police boarded the ship, and detected 10 persons, clad in black, who somehow found their way on board during ship s stay at Cartagena. In following cargo check, 185 kilos of pure cocaine were found, understood in container or containers. Intruders were detained, one of them being a convict.

Disabled passenger vessel taken on tow
Passenger vessel CANTIKA LESTARI suffered engine failure in the morning Jan 28 local time, while en route from Jayapura to Kasonaweja, eastern Indonesian Borneo, Philippine sea, with 189 passengers on board. Disabled vessel was caught in rather rough seas some 30 nm northwest of Jayapura, tug was sent, CANTIKA LESTARI was taken on tow to be towed back to Jayapura. Two numbered CANTIKA LESTARI ships found in EQUASIS, no AIS.

Cargo ship sank in Flores sea, 20 crew rescued
General cargo ship CANCI LADJONI 3 sank in waters between islands Kayuadi and Jampea, south of Selayar island, southern Sulawesi, in the morning Jan 27. 20 crew were rescued by locals. Water ingress said to be the cause.

General cargo ship MAXAL ZITA encountered mechanical problem while entering Bosphorus in the afternoon Jan 26, en route from Kherson Ukraine to Tuzla Turkey. The ship was ordered to anchor at Kumkoy anchorage, Black sea, for repairs and survey. As of 0700 UTC Jan 28, she was still anchored.
