Maritime Search And Rescue Workshop Conducted By Indian Coast Guard
A Maritime Search and Rescue Workshop was conducted for all stakeholders present in the Andaman and Nicobar region. The workshop was conducted by the Indian Coast Guard of Andaman and Nicobar. Andaman and Nicobar islands Chief Secretary Chetan Bhushan Sanghi inaugurated the workshop in the presence of Inspector General MV Pathak, Commander Coast Guard Region (Andaman and Nicobar). The event witnessed participation of multiple Maritime - Search and Rescue (M-SAR) stakeholder organizations.

Update: First Attempt to Separate Collided Ships Fails
The first attempt to pull apart the Tunisian Ro-Ro ship Ulysses from the hull of Cyprus-flagged containership CLS Virginia was unsuccessful, the Maritime Prefecture of the Channel and the Mediterranean said in an update.
The two ships have been stuck in the same position since Ulysses rammed into the anchored boxship some 28 kilometres north-west of Cape Corsica three days ago.

A Glass of Wine - Cost of Switching to Cleaner Fuels in Arctic
It would cost passengers just the price of a glass of wine a day if cruise ships would stop burning highly polluting heavy fuel oil (HFO) in the Arctic environment, according to a new report from green transport group Transport & Environment.
The report analysed the impact on the cruise ship MS Rotterdam had it switched to marine gas oil (MGO) during three summer trips to the Arctic in 2018.

Dutch shipbuilder Shipyard De Hoop has launched the construction of a new expedition cruise vessel for cruise company Silversea Cruises. The shipbuilder held a steel cutting ceremony for the new 100-guest ship, to be named Silver Origin, on October 8, 2018.

Explosion and fire on bunker tanker, S-Petersburg
Boiler exploded in engine room of bunker tanker KEILA, moored alongside reefer BALTIC PEARL, which is docked at S-Petersburg port, Russia, at 0730 Moscow time Oct 9. Explosion was followed by fire in funnel area. at the time of an accident, reefer was receiving bunker fuel from tanker. Fire was extinguished by tanker and reefer crews, no injures reported.

Two Turkish freighters collided in Istanbul
General cargo ship TK ROTTERDAM allided with bulk carrier BOSPHORUS KING in the morning Oct 9 on Istanbul outer anchorage, Yenikapi, Marmara sea, understood both ships were under way. TK ROTTERDAM is en route from Haifa to Kavkaz Russia, BOSPHORUS KING is en route from Ukraine to Spain. Both ships reportedly sustained hull damages above waterline, understood to be slight.

Genco Unveils Comprehensive Plan Ahead of IMO 2020
The US-based dry bulk shipping company Genco Shipping & Trading Limited plans to install exhaust gas cleaning systems on its seventeen Capesize vessels with options for installation on an additional fifteen minor bulk vessels.
The company anticipates scrubber installation to be completed in 2019, ahead of the January 1, 2020 deadline when the IMO sulphur cap enters into force.

Venezuela Seizes 150 Kg of Cocaine from Tanker
Close to 150 kilograms of cocaine have been seized from the 47,018 dwt chemical tanker Jose Progress, according to the Venezuelan National Guard.
The illicit cargo was found in an underwater inspection of the Panama-flagged vessel, conducted on October 8.

Pirates Board Maersk Newbury in Ecuador Waters
Singapore-flagged containership Maersk Newbury was boarded by pirates while transiting under pilot at Guayaquil River in Ecuador on October 2, 2018.
The master alerted the local authorities when he sighted the presence of unauthorized persons on board, Asian piracy watchdog ReCAAP ICC informed.

Poland s PERN plans to extend Gdansk Oil Terminal by 2020
Poland s pipeline operator PERN plans to more than double the capacity of Gdansk Oil Terminal, the company said on Monday. PERN has launched a tender procedure to extend the terminal, which would see its oil storage capacity increase by more than 2.5 million barrels of crude oil from 2.36 million barrels.

Mekong Delta ports need better linkages to increase efficiency
About 85 million tonnes of goods are being loaded at ports in the region each year, according to Trinh The Cuong from the Viet Nam Maritime Administration.
However, the seaports handle only 20-25 per cent of the total cargo shipped by sea in the region, while the remaining is transported through ports in the southeastern region, he said.

C-Innovation opens new Port Fourchon dock facility to strengthen subsea services
C-Innovation, LLC (C-I), an affiliate of Edison Chouest Offshore (ECO) and its family of companies, has opened a new dock facility in Port Fourchon, La., to expand the capabilities of its Subsea Services group.
With more than 550 ft of open quayside, Bayou Lafourche is a main entrance into the facility, which is supplied with a Manitowoc 777 crane and forklifts for rapid mobilizations of C-I s subsea construction and inspection, maintenance and repair (IMR) fleet of vessels, including the 525 ft long Island Venture offshore construction vessel.
