Future Fuels Will Require New Seafarer Training ABS report.
In a keynote address at the Shipping Insight 2020 conference Tuesday, the head of the American Bureau of Shipping called for universal crew training standards for LNG-fueled vessels.
"In all likelihood, the fleet of the future will be fueled by a variety of choices," said ABS chairman, president and CEO Christopher J. Wiernicki. Pirates are kidnapping more seafarers off West Africa IMB reports.
ICC International Maritime Bureau (IMB) figures show a rise in piracy and armed robbery on the world's seas in the first nine months of 2020, with a 40% increase in the number of kidnappings reported in the Gulf of Guinea. Pirates armed with guns and knives are abducting bigger groups of seafarers at further distances off the West African coast.

Sand carrier capsized, sank in Hainan Strait, 2 dead, 4 missing.
Sand carrier SHUNAN66 issued distress signal at around 1800 Beijing time Oct 13 in Hainan Strait, South China, reporting imminent danger of capsizing, and requesting assistance. SAR ships and ships in the area responded, SHUNAN66 capsized and sank soon after issuing distress. 4 crew managed to get to lifeboat, and later were picked up, all safe. 6 crew were missing.Posted On:15-Oct-2020

Capesize bulk carrier interrupted voyage to medevac Filipino Master.
Capesize bulk carrier STAR GINA 2GR on Oct 13 interrupted her voyage from China to Port Hedland Australia while transiting Lombok Strait, and anchored at southern Bali island anchorage, requesting immediate medical assistance. Master of the ship, understood of Filipino nationality, lost conscience, his skin turned pale and blue. He was medevaced by SAR team on a RHIB, and transferred to hospital.Posted On:15-Oct-2020

Container ship CMA CGM MISSOURI ran aground in Suez Canal while transiting in southern direction, at around 0930 UTC Oct 14. As of 1745 UTC, probably refloated or moved, several Suez Canal tugs attending. Traffic probably suspended, but it s not confirmed. No information on what caused grounding.Posted On:15-Oct-2020
