India: Thermal, coking coal imports at major ports dip 25 pc to 55 MT in Apr-Sep, IPA report.
Disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic continued to impact cargo movement in India, with thermal and coking coal imports at 12 major ports falling 25.13 per cent year-on-year to 55.41 million tonnes (MT) in April-September, according to the apex ports body IPA.
Coal volumes at the 12 major ports declined for the sixth straight month in September 2020, as per the Indian Ports Association (IPA).Posted On:19-Oct-2020

COVID19: Malta Stops MSC Cruise Passengers From Disembarking.
Malta on Friday stopped passengers disembarking from the MSC Grandiosa cruise ship over a suspected case of COVID-19, Tourism Minister Julia Farrugia Portelli said.
Although the cruise ship was let into Valletta harbour, it was not allowed to disembark passengers, Portelli said.
The ship, which is cruising around the central Mediterranean, left port after taking in supplies. There was no immediate comment from MSC Cruises, which operates the vessel.Posted On:19-Oct-2020

India: Govt extends 40% discount on cargo movement between India and Chabahar Port in Iran.
The union shipping ministry on Friday said it has extended the current 40% discount for movement of cargo between India and Chabahar port in Iran for one more year to encourage trade.
"The Ministry of Shipping has extended the current concessional rate of 40% discount for coastal movement of cargo and vessel related charges, for a period of further one year to clients for cargo being handled at Jawaharlal Nehru Port and Deendayal Port from/to Shahid Beheshti Port, Chabahar, Iran," an official statement said.Posted On:19-Oct-2020

Seafarers stranded on remote South Atlantic Island after vessel sinks.
A dramatic rescue effort is underway to save 62 seafarers from a remote South Atlantic island after their vessel stuck rocks and sank on October 15. The South African Maritime Authority (SAMSA) is confirming the sinking of what they are calling a fishing research vessel, the Geo Searcher, which was lost off Gough Island. Stranded seafarers a global humanitarian crisis
Maritime industry leaders in Merseyside have been told that the number of seafarers stranded out at sea during the COVID-19 pandemic has created "a global humanitarian crisis".
Mark Dickinson, general secretary of seafarers union Nautilus International, addressed the national Maritime Exchange conference organised by Mersey Maritime. Australia: Crew members on ships test positive for COVID-19.
Two crew members on separate ships in Western Australia have tested positive for COVID-19, with a crew member aboard a ship docked in Fremantle becoming the state's latest coronavirus case.
The crew member, from the Al Messilah livestock carrier, was taken to Fiona Stanley Hospital for another condition and was tested for COVID-19 as a precaution, but returned a positive result.Posted On:19-Oct-2020

0700 UTC Oct 18: Merchant ship was attacked in Gulf of Guinea, some 115 nm south of Lome, Togo, at around 2000 UTC Oct 17. Understood it’s a product tanker PTI NILE, and most probably, she was boarded. Tanker track coincides with attack position, she stopped soon after attack near attack position, AIS seems to be off during last 9-10 hours. General cargo ship grounding, Sunda Strait.
General cargo ship NOAH SATU with 2,500 tons of tapioca on board ran aground on the northern coast of Sebuku island, Sunda Strait, Indonesia, early in the morning Oct 14, while en route from Panjang, southern Sumatra. The ship was refloated in the morning Oct 18 with the help of the tug, and taken to Bakauheni anchorage, Sumatra, Sunda Strait.
