Container ship capsized in Surabaya.
Container ship MENTARI CRYSTAL capsized with her starboard resting on bottom along pier at Teluk Lamong Terminal, Surabaya, East Java, Indonesia, at night Nov 15. There were 137 containers on board at the time of an accident, understood crew are safe. The ship most probably, became highly unstable due to faulty ballasting and containers stowage.Posted On:17-Nov-2020

AMSA To End Permit That Allowed Seafarers To Work Longer On Board Ships.
The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) has announced that from 28 February 2021 the interim COVID arrangements which have permitted seafarers to serve longer than 11 months on-board ships will end.
Under the Maritime Labour Convention the normal maximum period that a seafarer can serve aboard a vessel without leave is 11 months. Due to the COVID-19 travel restrictions and border closures, AMSA has taken a pragmatic approach to compliance with this requirement.Posted On:17-Nov-2020

Cargo ship collided with fishing vessel, 4 dead, 1 missing
Cargo ship HONG YUN 9888 collided with fishing vessel early in the morning Nov 15 in Yellow sea, some 10 nm southeast of Shidao, Shandong Province, China. At the time of collision, HONG YUN 9888 was sailing in northern direction, heading for Yantai. Fishing vessel capsized but remained afloat partially submerged. There were 5 people on board, of whom 3 were recovered dead, 1 was rescued but later died, and 1 is still missing, SAR continues.Posted On:17-Nov-2020

Maritime Safety Committee supports shipping and seafarers during pandemic.
An important reference set of protocols to ensure safe ship crew changes and travel during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has been recognized by IMO s technical body, the Maritime Safety Committee (MSC).
The Committee, meeting virtually for its 102nd session (4 to 11 November) approved an MSC circular recognizing the industry-developed protocols, which set out general measures and procedures designed to ensure that ship crew changes and travel can take place safely during the pandemic.Posted On:17-Nov-2020

Pirates Kidnap 19 in Two Separate Incidents in Gulf of Guinea.
A total of nineteen seafarers have been kidnapped in two separate incidents in the Gulf of Guinea as piracy surges in the region.
The first incident involved the heavy lift ship ZHEN HUA 7. According to reporting from Dryad Global, the incident took place November 13 when pirates boarded the ship as it drifted approximately 78 nautical miles northwest of Sao Tome. Seafarers Welfare Board established in Canada.
On Friday, Canadas minister of transport, Marc Garneau, in collaboration with the Canadian marine community, announced the establishment of the National Seafarers Welfare Board.

SafeCrew goes live, hoping to solve crew change crisis.
A pilot run of a new platform is set to begin, aiming to tackle the crew change crisis by deploying remote health monitoring technology to track crew healthiness from shore to sea and back to shore.
The "SafeCrew Platform", designed by Captain Milutin Gojkovic, managing director of Alpes Maritime Consulting (AMC), will utilise FDA-grade sensor devices, artificial intelligence and smart apps to monitor crew health starting at their home town once they are hired and continuing on the vessel until returning to shore.Posted On:17-Nov-2020
