Laker MISSISAGI suffered engine failure on Nov 27 in upper Lake Huron, understood was anchored, on Nov 29 was taken on tow to be towed to Sarnia lower Huron, as of 0630 UTC Nov 30 caravan was approaching Sarnia.

Port of Singapore to Ban Discharge of Scrubber Wash Water
The Port of Singapore plans to prohibit the discharge of wash water from open-loop exhaust gas scrubbers in its waters when the 2020 fuel oil sulphur limit enters into force, Andrew Tan, Chief Executive of the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore, said.
The move has been attributed to the port s efforts aimed at protecting marine environment and ensuring port waters are clean.

Norden Trials Biofuel as Alternative to LSFO
Danish shipping company Norden has tested out the potential of biofuel on one of its Handysize product tankers as part of the company s efforts to reduce its carbon footprint.
The test voyage was conducted by 37,000 dwt tanker Nord Highlander in September 2018 in co-operation with Rotterdam-based marine biofuel company GoodFuels.

Smit Lamnalco Wins Exclusive Gladstone Port Towage Gig
otterdam-based provider of towage and associated marine services Smit Lamnalco has won an exclusive licence by Gladstone Ports Corporation (GPC) to supply towage services in the Port of Gladstone.
The licence will commence on January 1, 2019 for a five-year term, with an option to extend for a further three years to December 31, 2026. The company has been providing harbour towage services at the Port of Gladstone since 2011.

Bulk carriers collided in Black sea
Seasonal regular storm brought by northern winds battered Novorossiysk, Russia, Black sea, on Nov 29. Most of the ships left port and either anchored, or moved around, to wait for storm to pass. Bulk carrier AMORGOS dragged her anchor and drifted onto bulk carrier PRINCE HADI. Both ships were damaged, extent of damages yet unknown. Both ships remain on Novorossiysk outer anchorage in Gelendzhik area.

Hoegh LNG Targets Four Long-Term FSRU Projects
As the FSRU market is improving, Norway-based company Hoegh LNG said it is in the final selection round for four different long-term FSRU projects.
As explained, the group is currently involved in the final bid rounds or has achieved exclusivity in four FSRU tender processes. Furthermore, it is involved in several additional selection processes at various stages of development.

The world s first intelligent very large ore carrier (iVLOC), the DNV GL-classed Pacific Vision, was delivered by Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipyard to China Merchants Energy Shipping Company.
The vessel is the worlds first VLOC to implement DNV GL s SmartShip descriptive notation.

Florida-based cruise ship company Virgin Voyages has revealed its plans to build a home port in Miami to fit its new cruise ship, Scarlet Lady.
Pending the Board of County Commission s approval of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for construction of a new cruise facility, the company s new terminal is planned for PortMiami.

Vitol Signs Long-Term LNG Deal with Petronas
Geneva-based energy and commodity trading firm Vitol has signed a binding Heads of Agreement (HOA) for long-term liquefied natural gas (LNG) sale and purchase (SPA) with Petronas LNG.
Under the terms of the deal, which was signed on October 1, 2018, the LNG supply to Vitol is to commence in 2024 and would see a provision of 0.8 million tonnes of LNG per annum for a period of up to 15 years on both Delivered Ex-Ship (DES) and Free on Board (FOB) basis.

Alfa Laval Wraps Up Tests for USCG Type Approval
Swedish engineering group Alfa Laval has completed additional tests to verify the biological efficacy of Alfa Laval PureBallast 3 without holding time.
Undertaken at the Norwegian Institute for Water Research (NIVA), the test showed that PureBallast 3 "is on target to be the first UV ballast water treatment system with zero holding time in its U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) type approval for all three water salinities."
