Crowley Christens First LNG-Ready Product Tanker Jacksonville-based Crowley Maritime Corp. has christened the MV Ohio, the first of four new LNG-ready Jones Act product tankers being built at Aker Philadelphia Shipyard.
The 50,000 DWT, 330,000-barrel-capacity ship is the first tanker ever to receive the American Bureau of Shipping's (ABS) LNG-Ready Level 1 approval, giving Crowley the option to convert the tanker to liquefied natural gas (LNG) propulsion in the future.
The vessel was constructed by Aker Philadelphia Shipyard, Inc. (APSI), the wholly-owned U.S. subsidiary of Aker Philadelphia Shipyard ASA. The remaining three product tankers are also being built by APSI for Crowley and have planned deliveries through 2016.
The new tankers are based on a proven Hyundai Mipo Dockyards (HMD) design which incorporates numerous fuel efficiency features, flexible cargo capability and the latest regulatory requirements.
Ohio measures 600 feet long and is capable of carrying crude oil or refined petroleum products. Under direction of Captain Dan Loewer and Chief Engineer Donald Routley, the vessel has made two voyages to date carrying clean petroleum products to Florida, Crowley says.
The MV Ohio was to be christened today at the Tampa Cruise Terminal with Pamaela Beall, president of MPLX, a Maritime Petroleum Corporation subsidiary, performing the ceremonial breaking of a bottle of champagne across the hull of the vessel.Posted On:4-Nov-2015
