North P&I Club, ISWAN Launch New Helpline for Crew
North P&I Club has launched its new Mind Matters campaign, including a confidential helpline for crew provided in partnership with the International Seafarer s Welfare and Assistance Network (ISWAN).
The new campaign aims to raise awareness of mental health and wellbeing at sea. It provides North P&I Club s members and their crew with a number of resources and materials to support their emotional wellbeing at sea and to provide guidance on where to access additional help if needed.
Yilport Takes Over Puerto Quetzal s Multi-Purpose Ops
Turkish port operator Yilport Holding has expanded its terminal portfolio with a 55 percent share in Guatemala s largest Pacific Ocean port, Puerto Quetzal.
Under the agreement, which was signed between the port authority and Yilport, the company took over the multi-purpose quay operations in the terminal as of October 18, 2018.
Stena Bulk s Chemical Tanker Dodges Pirate Attack
Stena Bulk s chemical tanker Stena Imperial reported a suspected pirate approach on November 3, whilst on northbound passage through the Red Sea west of Yemen.
The Swedish tanker shipping company said that two suspicious skiffs approached Stena Imperial from the port side at a distance of 1.5 nautical miles.
Golar LNG Reaps Fruits of Market Strengthening
Amid the improvement in the shipping market, owner and operator of LNG carriers Golar LNG closed the third quarter of this year with an increase in net income.
The company reported net income of USD 66.2 million in Q3 2018, compared to net income of USD 36.3 million seen in Q2 this year.
Celebrity Edge Delivered, Heads for Florida
Celebrity Cruises has taken delivery of its brand new 117,000 gross ton cruise ship, Celebrity Edge, after 23 months of construction.
"Today (October 31) is a very special day for all of us as we have been eagerly anticipating this moment for more than four years," said Celebrity s President and CEO Lisa Lutoff-Perlo.
N2Tankers Aframax Pool Gets Underway
German shipowner Reederei Nord and Singapore-based ship manager Synergy Group, on behalf of Nissen Kaiun, have launched N2Tankers, a new Aframax tanker pool.
The pool has been set up as a joint venture, and it consists of 13 Aframax tankers, built between 2007-2018 by Japanese yards.
Acid spill from container ship, Leixoes
Formic acid leaked from one of the containers carried by container ship HSL PORTO at Leixoes port, Portugal, in the afternoon Nov 5. Details not clear it wasn t said if spill occurred on board of the ship, or after container was offloaded. FORMIC acid is known to be very toxic and water soluble, with irritating odor.
Oldendorff Orders Bulker Pair at Jiangsu Hantong
German Oldendorff Carriers is renewing its fleet with two more bulker newbuilds, the company spokesperson confirmed to World Maritime News.
The two 209,000 dwt bulk carriers have been ordered from Chinese Jiangsu Hantong Ship Heavy Industries.
Report: Global Alliances in Container Shipping Could Raise Competition Concerns
Container shipping alliances could raise competition concerns in what has become a concentrated market, according to the latest report issued by OECD s International Transport Forum (ITF).
In 2018, the top four container carriers accounted for 60 pct of the global container shipping market. Nowadays, the market share of the biggest carrier (19 pct) is larger than the market share of any global liner alliance before 2012, signifying the different character of current alliances, according to ITF.
Fincantieri to Set Up Cruise Hub in China
Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri has signed contracts with the Shanghai City’s District of Baoshan to set up a cruise hub dedicated to support the shipbuilding and maritime activities in the cruise sector.
The hub builds upon the agreements between Fincantieri, CSSC and Carnival Corporation & plc announced in February 2017 for the construction of two cruise ships, the first ever made in China for the local market.
