Danicas annual Seafarer Survey shows crew training is benefiting from digital delivery
Seafarer training has increased and improved this year - thanks to shipping companies embracing the use of digital technology.
A survey by crewing specialist Danica revealed that nearly a third of all seafarers who responded to say they had received training from their company this year had been trained online - a huge increase from just 4% in 2019.

KVH Expands Maritime Network Coverage for Hudson Bay & North Atlantic
KVH Industries, Inc., (Nasdaq: KVHI), announced today that it has expanded its mini-VSAT Broadband HTS network coverage throughout Hudson Bay and the North Atlantic, including northeastern Canada, the Labrador Sea, Iceland, and Greenland. The expansion represents an addition of nearly 4 million square kilometers of Ku-band coverage to the 272 million square kilometers of global coverage that KVHs HTS network provides.

India: Adani taken aback by workers demands at newly acquired Krishnapatnam port
Scores of workers engaged in logistics operations at Krishnapatnam port have urged the management to provide job protection, payment of wage arrears and eight-hour shifts, among other issues.
The workers have joined the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) to press their demands. The CITU had represented the workers demands before the District Collector at Nellore where the port is located, following which the Collector had directed the Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO), Nellore to call a meeting to resolve the grievances of the workers.

Three Killed, Five Missing After Two Ships Collide Near Shanghai
Two smaller container ships operating feeder routes along China's Yangtze River collided overnight near Shanghai, causing one of the vessels to capsize. At least three sailors were reported killed in the accident with the search ongoing.
The Shanghai Maritime Search and Rescue Center coordinated the rescue efforts. They reported that the incident began when a 21,770 DWT container ship, the Oceana, lost power due to a suspected electrical issue with its steering gear.

ContiOcean gets first AIP from LR for ship cyber security in Asia
LR in China has evaluated the design concept of 'Cyberion Ship Cyber Security' (Enhanced) Solutions and awarded an AIP to ContiOcean Environmental Technology Company.
ContiOcean started to independently develop a complete set of solutions for ship cyber security, Cyberion SCSS system, in 2018, which mainly focuses on ship cyber asset management, cyber security management system verification and authorisation, system construction, risk management and system delivery.

India: PSA MUMBAI WELCOMES NEW FAR EAST SERVICE (CI6/SIS/CISC2)
PSA Mumbai welcomed a new Far East service (CI6/SIS/CISC2), jointly operated by Wan Hai Lines, Interasia Lines, Sinokor Merchant Marine Co. Ltd , Heung A Line Co. Ltd., and Feedertech Pte Ltd. The maiden vessel called the terminal on 12th December 2020.

India: Will the governments move to regulate shipping freight work?
By proposing that service providers specify an all-inclusive freight rate which removes the possibility of levying surcharges and enhances transparency, the Centre has backed a long-standing demand from exporters and importers to regulate shipping freight, particularly those collected by container carriers.

Container Shortage Crisis Arrives for India

Lloyds Register teams up with ISWAN to support its helpline - SeafarerHelp
Lloyd s Register is raising awareness of a free, multilingual, confidential helpline for seafarers this Christmas, called SeafarerHelp , and supporting the charity that runs it, the International Seafarers Welfare and Assistance Network.
Earlier this year a survey by Lloyd s Register (LR) on maritime workers wellbeing during COVID-19 revealed that seafarers feel forgotten and abandoned, amid the ongoing crew change crisis.

AmNav Celebrates First Remote Tug Christening on U.S. West Coast
Keeping business moving ahead in the COVID-19 era, tug operator AmNav has conducted the first remote christening of a new tugboat on the U.S. West Coast. Tanker blast at Jeddah, Suspect sabotage or attack
Tanker BW RHINE, berthed at Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, reportedly suffered an explosion at around 2210 UTC Dec 13, being "hit by an external source". Tanker was in process of cargo operation, all crew are safe, there was probably, hull breach. no other details available. Some kind of sabotage or attack may take place, investigation under way.
