Wartsila Norway and Grieg Star's innovation hub Grieg Edge are jointly running the project to launch the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions free tanker, MS Green Ammonia, in 2024.

India: Shipping ministry intends to make Bhavnagar a container manufacturing hub |
In a move to produce the shipping containers locally, the Ministry of Ports Shipping & Waterways (MoPSW) has appointed a Coordination Committee to study the feasibility of manufacturing the containers in Bhavnagar, Gujarat, and subsequently transform it into a container manufacturing hub by using recycled and fresh steel for fabrication of containers.

Kattupalli Port has restored normal export gate carting for vessels, the port operator said in a trade advisory.
"Carting will be opened only for one vessel per service," Adani Kattupalli Port Pvt Ltd said in the advisory to customers.
On December 11, Adani Kattupalli Port said it was "temporarily suspending" accepting export containers for vessels calling at the port from December 18.

MINISTER of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Senator Kamina Johnson Smith says Government s efforts to improve the working conditions of Jamaican seafarers are related to its experiences in the earlier days of the coronavirus pandemic.
Senator Johnson Smith s reference was to the April stand-off between the Government and some cruise vessels which were still sailing the seas with hundreds of Jamaican workers on-board in April.

Kyiv confirms maritime kidnapping of 6 Ukrainians from ship off Nigeria s coast |
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry on Saturday confirmed that six Ukrainian nationals were among the crew members abducted off the coast of Nigeria from the Cameroon-flagged STEVIA cargo ship.
On Wednesday, pirates attacked the vessel in the Gulf of Guinea, having captured eight members of the crew, 28 nautical miles (51.8 kilometers) off the coast of Nigeria. The daughter of one of the captured sailors said on Saturday that there were six Ukrainians aboard the vessel.

India: Vadhavan port becomes flashpoint between Centre, Maharashtra Government. |
The proposed mega port at Vadhavan in the Palghar district of coastal Konkan region is emerging as a big flashpoint between BJP-led NDA government at the Centre and the Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi government.
The proposed port is part of the ambitious Sagarmala Programme, the flagship project of the Ministry of Shipping. Vadhavan (or Wadhavan) is located in Dahanu tehsil of Palghar district nearly 140 km off downtown Mumbai.

Maersk Warns of Africa Piracy Risk After Cargo Ship Attacked. |
A container ship owned by A.P. Moller-Maersk A/S was attacked off the West African coast, prompting the company to warn of a rising risk from piracy in the area.
The Maersk Cadiz was boarded by "criminals" on Saturday at about 2:30 p.m. Nigeria time while traveling from Tema in Ghana to Kribi in Cameroon, Maersk said in a statement. Nigerian naval ships have arrived to help the vessel, which can transport the equivalent of as many as 4,500 twenty-foot containers.

MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company is calling for an urgent crew change solution for the bulk carrier "ANASTASIA", which is stuck off the coast of northern China, and is among dozens of ships in a waiting line near the port of Caofeidian.
MSC has repeatedly requested during the ship s voyage that the seafarers onboard should be relieved to return home to their families.

The Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) has lifted the 14-days mandatory quarantine period stipulated for ships arriving from ports of infected countries after maritime trade complained that this was delaying the berthing of vessels with a cascading effect on the container logistics chain.
