IMO Secretary General urges priority COVID-19 vaccination for seafarers
Welcoming a UN General Assembly resolution calling for seafarers to be designated as key workers IMO Secretary-General Kitack Lim is urging that seafarers and maritime workers receive priority COVID-19 vaccination to allow them to work and maintain vital global supply chains.
"I hope that the key worker designation will ensure that seafarers can be vaccinated expeditiously. This will go some way to resolving the ongoing crew change crisis," he said.Posted On:3-Dec-2020

2nd boat hits bottom after freighter runs aground in Detroit River.
A freighter ran aground early Wednesday in the lower Detroit River near Grosse Ile causing a vessel attempting to avoid it to hit bottom and a logjam for other ships rushing to move cargo ahead of the close of the shipping season.
The Harvest Spirit, carrying about 74,000 gallons of diesel fuel and 9,000-10,000 metric tons of furnace coke, experienced engine failure in the river's Livingstone Channel and ran aground, said Lauren Solski, a spokeswoman with the Canadian Coast Guard, in an email.Posted On:3-Dec-2020

Indian Port volumes yet to fully recovery, says Ind-Ra
Indias port volumes are yet to recover fully from the Covid-19 pandemic-induced trends such as shortage of containers amid a demand-supply imbalance, says India Ratings and Research (Ind-Ra).

Seafarers UK has launched the UK Maritime Anchor Fund to support working age UK National merchant seafarers, impacted by COVID-19.

ABS Publishes Sustainability Guide - MarineLink
Classification society ABS has published the Guide for Sustainability Notations aiming to help marine and offshore operators meet the environmental, social and governance (ESG) requirements outlined in the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Container ship section sank at Shipbuilding Yard, Taiwan.
A section of container ship under construction tilted and sank while in process of relocation from one dry dock to another on Nov 28, at Kaohsiung Ship Yard, Taiwan, obviously due to mismanagement and/or miscalculations. Container Ship suffered record number of lost/damaged containers, North Pacific
ONE, operator and NYK, managers of container ship ONE APUS, issued situation update on Dec 2, acknowledging what looks like, record number of lost and damaged containers in stormy weather event, some 1,900 units. As of 1300 UTC Dec 2, the ship was sailing in opposite to her voyage true course direction, apparently in an attempt to stabilize the ship and cargo, and avoid more losses, by sailing through areas with favorable weather conditions.Posted On:3-Dec-2020

Saltie aground by Engine failure, Detroit river.
HARVEST SPIRIT grounding was caused by engine failure, as of 0215 UTC Dec 3 she was still aground. Shes partially blocking the channel, so that downbound Polish bulk carrier GARDNO contacted bottom while passing HARVEST SPIRIT, between 1500 and 1540 UTC Dec 2. Bulk carrier was brought to anchor in Ontario, for inspection, her final port of destination being Bordeaux France.Posted On:3-Dec-2020

Five Cruise Ships Have Not Yet Met US CDC Approval.
With preparations for a resumption of cruises in full swing, it comes somewhat as a surprise to see that no less than five cruise ships have not yet met the CDC s approval for disembarking crew members.
