3 Sailors Have COVID On US Ship That Saw Outbreak Last Year
Three sailors aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt have tested positive for COVID-19, the Navy said Monday, less than a year after a massive outbreak on the ship sidelined it in Guam for nearly two months. The Navy said the three sailors have not had any symptoms, and they and others who were exposed to them are currently isolated on the aircraft carrier, which is conducting operations in the Pacific.

Singapore: New Covid-19 test requirement for seafarers who disembark here
Seafarers getting off ships in Singapore will now need to take a Covid-19 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test at the port where the ship last stopped and test negative before arriving here.
This new requirement applies to all applications submitted from yesterday for seafarers who wish to disembark their ships here for a crew change, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) said in a circular issued on the same day.

Swan Hellenic to Require COVID Vaccine for Crew
Swan Hellenic announced that will require all its staff and crew to be vaccinated against COVID-19. The start up brand plans to launch service later this year with the Minerva.
The company said that the vaccination cycle will be carried out at recruitment centers or in the home countries of the crew members in accordance with current local guidelines and approved medical protocols.

Norway port strike could disrupt output of oil by a third, gas by two fifths
Workers will decide on Monday whether to strike this week at Norways largest oil loading terminal, action that could disrupt production at fields responsible for a third of the countrys crude output and more than 40% of natural gas exports.
Norway, western Europes largest oil and gas producer, pumps about 2.1 million barrels per day (bpd) of crude, while gas production amounts to 2 million barrels of oil equivalent per day (boed).

Shipping Australia condemns latest waterfront strike action
Victoria International Container Terminal, in the Port of Melbourne, has revealed that it will shortly be subject to extensive industrial action. Shipping Australia CEO Melwyn Noronha comments: We would like to express our sympathy for ordinary families, for importers and exporters and for the trucking and logistics industries. All of these Australians are already suffering because of the pandemic and the associated economic crisis.

IMO Urges Action to Combat Piracy in Gulf of Guinea
The International Maritime Organization (IMO) will convene a maritime security working group in response to the growing number of pirate attacks on ships in the Gulf of Guinea.
The working group is set to meet at the next session of the Maritime Safety Committee, MSC 103, scheduled to take place in May, to provide an opportunity for Member States and international organizations to discuss further collaboration and possible action to address the problem.

Cargo ship disabled in Kiel Canal, taken back to Kiel
General cargo ship ULTDA CAPE TOWN suffered engine failure in Kiel Canal shortly after she began her transit after passing Kiel Locks, at around 1050 UTC Feb 13. Tugs responded and took disabled ship under control, she was either anchored or moored near accident site. Later she was taken back to Kiel, understood for survey and repairs, berthed at around 1500 UTC. As of 1700 UTC Feb 13, she remained in the same position.

Cargo ship fire, Caspian sea
General cargo ship TURKESTAN suffered fire in engine room on Feb 8 in Caspian sea, while en route from Baku to Aktau. Funnel insulation cover was the source of the fire, according to Master’ report. Fire was extinguished by sealing off engine room and activating CO2 firefighting system, but the ship was disabled.

Ports of Antwerp and Zeebrugge Set to Merge
Zeebrugge and Antwerp are all set to merge into a single entity, with an eye on rivaling Rotterdam.
The process will take at least a year to be finalized, as per official sources. The respective ports will operate under the name Port of Antwerp-Bruges.
