Seafarers will benefit from new photocard style certificates as the UK continues to drive forward maritime innovation and work to protect and support them.

Philippines: emerging as crew change hub for seafarers in Asia
The Philippines is emerging as a major hub of crew change for international sea vessels, according to the Bureau of Immigration (BI) as it reported that it processed and cleared last year more than 112,000 seafarers who joined or left their ships.

Bulk Carrier Crew Member Killed by Large Wave Off Nova Scotia
A crew member of a bulk carrier has died and three others injured after their ship was hit by a large wave several hundred miles off the coast of Nova Scotia on Saturday.

Abandoned Ship Crew Wages Hunger Strike in Kuwait
The crew of a Qatari-owned ship has launched a hunger strike after 11 months without pay and more than a year abandoned on board the vessel, according to the International Transport Workers Federation.
The ship, identified as the MV Ula, is currently in the Kuwaiti port of Shuaiba with 19 crew members from India, Turkey, Azerbaijan and Bangladesh. The seafarers have all refused meals since January 7, resulting in six of them having to be admitted to the hospital only to again return to the ship.Posted On:4-Feb-2021

Bulk carrier SANKO FORTUNE loaded with some 47,000 tons of maize, in the morning Feb 2 ran aground in Puerto San Martin port area, Parana river, Argentina, shortly after completing loading and leaving cargo terminal, being already underway and proceeding downstream. Drilling ship VALARIS DS4 broke off her moorings in stormy wind at Hunterston, Firth of Clyde, Scotland, in the evening Feb 2. The ship is said to be in an intermediate lay-up between commissions. Transshipments boost Zeebrugge s LNG terminal
Fluxys, the group overseeing Zeebrugge s LNG terminal operations declared that the Belgian port hosted a record number of ship operations despite seeing a decline in loading and unloading operations.
