Cargo ship engulfed in fire, crew sought shelter on forecastle |
Fire erupted in superstructure of cargo ship SHUN AN LUN in the morning Feb 3 off Zhoushan, and quickly engulfed all superstructure, so that the 11 crew had to move to forecastle, waiting for rescuers after issuing distress signal. Several SAR ships arrived at the scene and managed to transfer 11 seamen in stormy weather conditions. No injures reported. As of morning Feb 4, fire was under control, no more open flame visible. Shipowner is to contract salvage to tow disabled, partially burned ship, to some port. SHUN AN LUN was en route from Shanghai to Fuzhou.
