Oldendorff Carriers Hires Diana s Capesize
Greek dry bulk shipowner Diana Shipping has entered into a time charter contract with Germany-based Oldendorff Carriers for one of Diana s Capesize dry bulk vessels, the M/V Sideris GS.
As informed, the gross charter rate is USD 12,700 per day for a period until minimum October 15, 2020, up to maximum December 31, 2020.

KR Certifies First Cybersecurity Compliant Ship
Classification society Korean Register (KR) has completed a comprehensive cybersecurity survey of the chemical/oil tanker Songa Hawk and certified the ship to be fully compliant in all areas.
As a result, the Marshall Islands-flagged Songa Hawk has become the very first ship to achieve this type of certification.
The 13,300 dwt vessel is part of Songa Shipmanagement s fleet.

Celebrity Edge Sets Sail with First All-Female Cruise Crew
For the first time in maritime history, an all-female bridge and onboard leadership team set sail on March 8, commemorating International Women’s Day.
Led by Captain Kate McCue, the first American female cruise ship captain, who was accompanied by 26 other women representing 16 different countries, the cruise ship Celebrity Edge sailed out of Port Everglades and began its seven-day Caribbean journey.

Coronavirus-Hit Grand Princess to Dock at Oakland Port, Disembark Passengers
A cruise ship with coronavirus patients prepares to come ashore after it received permission by US authorities to dock in Oakland.
The 107,517 gross ton Grand Princess, operated by US cruise line Princess Cruises, has been stranded off the coast of San Francisco for several days due to the coronavirus outbreak onboard the vessel.
Out of more than 3,500 people aboard the cruise ship, 21 have been tested positive for COVID-19, the first phase of health screenings showed on Friday.

IMO 2020 s new sulphur emissions cap introduced
As the vast majority of the shipping community will already be aware, on 1 January 2020 the new sulphur content limits in Annex VI of the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL) came into effect. These new limits require the sulphur content of fuel oil burnt by commercial ships trading outside sulphur emission control areas to be 0.5% m/m or less, apart from those ships using equivalent compliance mechanisms (eg, using exhaust gas cleaning systems, also known as scrubbers or liquefied natural gas - see Regulation 4 of Annex VI).

Container ship broke off moorings at Livorno
Container ship SINGAPORE EXPRESS was torn off her moorings at Darsena Toscana container terminal, Livorno, Italy, shortly after midnight Mar 6. Livorno was battered by gale-force regional wind by the time of an accident. Understood aft moorings broke up, while fore moorings remained intact thanks to timely slackening. Port authorities were immediately alerted, deployed tugs assisted the ship and understood, she was moored alongside opposite berth.

Port of Newcastle a powerful link for renewable energy in NSW
Newcastle has again demonstrated its role as a critical trade gateway for Australia s take-up of renewable energy technology, with the latest batch of wind farm components set to arrive in the next week.
More than 200 wind turbines have been imported through Port of Newcastle over the past four years and this number is set to grow a further 25% this year with the arrival of another two shipments aboard specialist project cargo ships, Industrial Strength and BBC Coral.

No entry for shipping crew at Indian ports
As many as 16,076 crew and passengers onboard ships from China or having travel history to affected countries have not been allowed to disembark at Indian ports, a shipping ministry official said on Thursday.
However, all possible assistance and help are being provided to these passengers and crew - onboard 452 ships anchored at designated places - as per WHO guidelines in case of any fever or symptoms.
